Nick Saban Retiring - CONFIRMED

I think it's Lanning too. He's young enough to take the risk of following Saban and if he proves himself, he'll be there until he's got a couple of mansions like Saban. If he fails, he's young enough to resurrect his career somewhere else.

An older coach has to SET, like Jimbo or Dabo, because failing at Bama after Saban will likely mean their career is pretty much toast.

I guess Kiffin is a wild card. He would crawl all the way to Tuscaloosa from Oxford if they asked him but I don't think they'll ask him unless they hear some hard "No, thanks, not even for that amount" from others.

Jimbo isn't even a thought, and Dabo has coached his way out of contention. I agree they want someone younger and someone who knows his way around the conference. I don't know why, but I just can't see it being Kiffin. Has to be Lanning.

Let me preface my comments by saying, I think seeing the Bama fans’ meltdowns over Saban retiring is priceless. Some of them need to be brought back down from their high horse and go through a repeat of being a Bama fan in the late 90’s. Now, I read somewhere that Saban cited age and health concerns as his reasons for retiring. However, he was interviewing candidates for his WR coach job this morning. I’m wondering if he got a concerning health report which forced him to retire. While I despise Alabama, I hope that isn’t the reason he is retiring. As a lifelong UT fan, Saban has been a pain for over a decade. But I do believe that he is a good man and human being and hope he enjoys a long and healthy retirement far away from the coaching staffs of any team that is scheduled to play The Vols.

I’m going to show respect. Saban was an amazing football coach. I thought he was a little silly trying to make headlines in interviews but other than that, he never went out of his way to disrespect other programs. Would like to see him in Nashville and get them to keep Henry 😆

Maybe health concern was don’t have the patience or energy to deal with NIL, Transfer Portal and CFP12 and all that comes with the new world of CFB?

Something ain’t right here. No logical reason he was recruiting and interviewing staff into today and then suddenly retires. If he had been planning this he would have been doing things differently. Something unexpected happened and it happened suddenly IMHO

Do you really think if it was this sudden he would be sure they would have his replacement in 72 hours?

No. He did his job until he decided no. I see this all the time with my reports who retire. One of their biggest pride points is "how they leave it."

So who do they replace him with? I read an article suggesting Kiffin, Lanning, Sark, Daboer, Norvell and Swinney. I think of those 6 Kiffin or Norvell are the most likely. Kiffin has complained about the resources he has at Ole Miss and Norvell has complained about the ACC in general. I think Swinney would be a bad hire personally. Daboer just got Washington into the NC game and Sark’s horns demolished Bama. TX is a great program in its own right. Lanning would be my next pick, but would Bama want Lanning over those two? I think their best hire is Kiffin. He knows the program, he would continue with the recruiting onslaught and he would have a better chance at winning the NC. Leaving after 4 years and returning Ole Miss to relevance and probably the best they are going to be is respectable IMO.

It’s Kiffin or bust. Not a single other coach that can walk in right now and keep the recruits in my opinion. He will be good there but he won’t be Saban level.
There is another sleezeball that could that no one is talking about.

This guy followed another legend and had huge success. Guesses? I despise the guy. He’s on Saban and Kirby level of dislike.

Lsu coach? You said sleezeball so I’m thinking of scummy head coaches.
