honestly this makes a lot of sense. Milton we know is gone after this year and Nico is the best, if not one of the best QB’s in his class and is almost guaranteed the staring position next year. He needs as much experience to make next year an easier transition

Yep. And it helps with recruiting. When you’re recruiting GMac, you can say, “look, your freshman year will be Nico’s true junior year. He goes pro, you can start as a true sophomore or redshirt freshman.”

This was a no-brainer, you know unless he gets hurt he's here just 3 years and the red shirt can be used later if any injuries happen his 2nd or 3rd year. Also if he gets beat out next year, he will portal and you probably have the best starter in the nation. Red shirting 5 star QBs is a thing of the past IMO. Although Arch Manning might RS this year as a 3rd string QB but I believe he was an inflated 5 star by name reco and his family doesn't need NFL money immediately, by a long shot.

That's the thing. If Nico is as good as we believe he'll be, he's going to start for two years and then be a top 5 pick in the draft. By that time, Heupel will be picking and choosing between stud QB recruits, all of whom will be lining up to come to the soon to be "Quarterback U."

I think Redshirting my be dead but NIL will keep players in college longer (I think) by offering them more than then would make from rookie NFL contracts. I believe this is what we will start seeing. Hell Deion's son is making more than Dax, Trevor, Burrows etc. right now.

There was never a thought in my mind this guy or anyone after him would redshirt as long as Heupel is here unless we recruit two in a year. He is not planning to be here 5 years or even 4 unless he doesn't live up to the hype. The stable is looking promising.

The plan for any highly touted recruit is to play three years in college and then be drafted in the first round. There is no room for a red shirt in that plan.

Remember when we barely scored enough points to win never mind getting the backups playing time and game experience. We will be losing a lot of important seniors after this season so the more reps the backups get the better. Keeps those backups happy, hopefully, with some playing time and keeps the program rolling.
