Nico Iamaleava won't redshirt this season

It's never a good thing to start the season with a QB who doesn't have game experience. Next year he's gonna step into the starter role and the more game reps he gets this year, the better he'll be next year. I doubt we'll hit the portal for an experienced QB with what we currently have plus what we have coming it.

I think this is a great move by our staff.

CJH knows what he is doing. He understands the new college football landscape better than anybody, IMO. The legacy coaches are a step behind.

I agree. We are going to be stacked at qb for years to come, no need for the portal. Nico might have some growing pains next year only being a sophomore, but Merk (assuming he beats out GMac or whoever comes next) will have at least two years behind Nico to prepare.

Let's jump over to that thread for a quick review: Do you expect Nico to play much this year?
Before the season, in early August ... there were quite a few of us ... saying he would play a lot ... dismissing the idea he would redshirt.
The only way he redshirts ... is if he gets injured (knocking on wood can be heard in the background).
I know that dude! 😳

Why would we redshirt him when Milton is gone after this year? Nico needs game reps and experience now if he's the next QB1 and I fully expect that in at least 6 games this year UT will be in mop up mode by Q4.

His career path is the NFL after 3 years in college. He should play in any game we get a lead so that he will be ready to take over if Joe gets hurt.

The days of Peyton coming back for a 4th season at the same school are long gone unfortunately. When you have a top notch recruit like Nico, the clock starts on his first game in uniform. They are gone either to the NFL or another school in three max.

First off he's the 2nd team QB, so he'll play consequently in our blow out wins and more if Joe gets banged up. Secondly, if he's as good as we all think he is, he won't be here 4 years, much less 5, before heading to the NFL; and if he isn't, he'll be recruited over and hit the portal. So there is no reason I can see for a RS. I'm looking forward to his first 3 TD passes come Saturday! GBO

I’d love for him to get snaps in every game this season. That means we’ve obliterated all of our opponents.

That was one of the most infuriating policies of Fulmer. We'd have to watch talent squirm on the bench while the starters were flat or struggling.
Fulmer was known to play freshman, even to a detriment. Stewart, Manning, Suggs, Clausen, Jamal Lewis, Riggs and others. I remember some DB’s back in the day but not names. Seems one specific, Ronald (maybe) cost us a game against Florida.

Yeah I never thought that redshirt was even a question. I saw that thread and thought it was laughable that anyone thought he would redshirt.
