Nico is awesome but…

Isn't their buzz around that kid in Miami and Dart at Ole Miss also? And Milroe because Alabama. 🤢

I think Nico could just take it from them all with a few dimes against Bama and GA or maybe with his legs. It's so much easier for a QB because of all the touches vs an RB.

Not that I'm down on Sampson but historically it's a QB award.

Nico still needs work IMO. There were some bad throws yesterday. Sampson has been the stud so far.
Definitely agree. He’s only going to get better though. There were quite a few low snaps as well though. The throw to squirrel where he falls down, that pass was high but the snap was about at Nico’s knees and off the side of his body. A better snap I think he hits squirrel in stride and it’s an easy TD.

We just got thru the easy part of our schedule and honestly Nico's numbers aren't that great. (given he's been pulled early repeatedly)

Hoping he's saving it for the meat of the schedule honestly. The O Line needs to give him a cleaner pocket. Especially against these weak teams. Honestly little concerning for me.

I don't want nico having to flee the pocket and run against the big guys. He's not built for that, even though he's certainly capable. They'll get him hurt.

Dylan Sampson deserves the heisman talk atm. His stats are ridiculous given how many snaps he’s played. Nico will have plenty opportunity to add his name in the conversation. But let’s get D Samps name in the conversation.
HEAR, HEAR!!! 👍👍👏👏👏

😂 He has 700 yards passing in what equates to a game and a half of play. He’s been pulled really early in two games. His numbers are just fine.

Thru the easy 3 games of the schedule, 700 yards passing aren't heisman numbers is all I'm saying.

He's a freshman, I think next year is a more realistic heisman year for him. If he comes on and does it this year, it would be amazing given all the upper classman against whom he's competing.

You are way too premature to say that the Heisman is Nico’s to lose at this point.
I will get flamed for this. While Nico has played very well, it is not at the Heisman level yet. Passing per centage needs to come up somewhat and re visit the discussion after Oklahoma, Florida and Alabama. This is when we will know. 100% behind Sampson at this point.

He played a quarter last night. Maybe a half vs UTChatt; hell I can’t remember.

I understand that. That is true. He played 25 minutes last night.

That said, we're 3 games thru the schedule and he has amassed these numbers. The 3 easy games one could argue

They're not Heisman numbers.

I mean Heupel hasn’t allowed him to stay in and pad stats. Doesn’t matter about the stats though to this point. If he continues to put up solid numbers and goes into Athens and somehow wins he will be in the conversation.

Doesn't matter why, only thing that matters is the numbers, the competition against whom they were amassed and how far the team goes.

That said, sure if he rolls thru the real part of schedule and dominates top 5 teams he absolutely could win it still.

Idk how long you’ve been following the Heisman but the numbers absolutely do not matter not as much as the hype anyways. If they were the end all, Tenn would already have a Heisman winning QB.

Why do people think he's never going to have a bad throw....his ability to brush off a bad play and make a great one is what makes him special
That’s fair, but if you go back and watch only his throws as highlights it definitely stands out that he overthrew several. Most of them were dink and dunk throws to the sideline that should have been pitch and catch.

Take into account the snaps on those as well. Can’t overemphasize how much it affects things when your eyes have to shift down to corral the snap then come back to the downfield in a split second. People forget this is a freshman as well; every team in the country would kill to have his “issues”.

Agreed. I remember manning getting screwed because espn decided a defensive player should win!

But I still stand by my opinions previous.

I really only remember maybe 2 or 3 bad throws. I will say he missed a wide open Bru McCoy on the first pass play of the game.

Nico had some bad throws as every qb has but his throw to Nimrod yesterday was probably his prettiest throw as a vol

Good post UTK - thought the same thing but, I absolutely loathe any conversation about the Heisman till at least the 9th or 10th game. ( I personally feel it is a jinx and takes too much attention away from the rest of our excellent players and, more importantly, places too much attention on a teammate that needs to only be thinking about one thing - and that is the teams next W ) I would say though that I think Dylan Sampson is our teams most valuable player right now with his three very impressive performances so far. Let though, agree to refresh this thread a week from now after we play Oklahoma, which could be a very strong test for us and Mr. Sampson, ok?

Nico has great promise, looks great but still needs polish and someone please teach that dude how to slide. He’s too lean to take those hits

If Dylan Sampson keeps up this type of performance into the conference season, sure he deserves some Heisman talk. I think its a tall task and the bar has to be extremeky high for a RB to get recognition. He will have to average 150+ yards against teams like OU, Bama, Georgia, etc. Hard to see it happening, but lets wait untilncomference play to see who we lean on in vital moments.

Fellow VOL fans. As stated earlier the Heisman is predominately a QB award. However, Sampson is the real deal and most importantly his reward will be $$$ at the next level. So patience VFL's and I say this with a BIG smile...Nico's time is coming, just not this year as he's being groomed....

Stay tuned,

GBO

Let’s see how it goes when important games are on the line! The level of play good or bad will be magnified so all will see! It’s fun to be thinking and talking about it, but we’ll know a whole lot more next Sunday!!! But I would vote now!
