Nico Tampering

Contracts are the way to fix this but schools refuse to go that route b/c they want to keep all the revenue for themselves.
@UTwild82
I'd bet dollars to doughnuts Nico and any player that can start in the SEC is getting calls and texts weekly.

We need collective bargaining and contracts.
Exactly.

Short of congress granting serious anti-trust exemptions, unchecked NIL is the name of the game. The NCAA, or their conferences and respective member institutions, have lost all legal ability to restrict player movement and NIL. NIL booster collectives are essentially shell companies offering faux endorsement deals. The only way to prevent that is a CBA with bylaws that prevent faux endorsements.

The NFL can't restrict how much any players receive from legitimate endorsements, but they can prevent teams from circumventing the salary cap with faux endorsement deals.

This is nothing except a problem of compounded greed. From the NCAA trying to retain control of the Kitty by blocking conferences from signing mega broadcast contracts in the 80's. To the conferences trying to control the Kitty in conference. To the respective teams trying to control all of their revenue internally. To finally, the players individually trying to maximize their NIL earnings.

The players are no less guilty of greed than anyone else. They're just last on my list of blame.

Probably.

Interesting idea but is it seriously possible in today's CFB Rent-A-Player environ? ??
I think so. It will take a while to get there, but at some point I think coaches, ADs, and maybe even Presidents are going to have enough of players wanting new and better deals multiple times a semester in some cases players being on 3 rosters in a year. I just don't think college football can go a decade in this wild West we are currently in.

I'm all for players being on scholarship. I'm all for them making money from sponsorships, jersey sales, video game likeness, etc. Heck, I'm cool with them getting a cut of the billions they generate each year. They've earned it. But at some point, players need to be locked in. Having to re recruit your roster each semester, monthly, or possibly weekly at this point is insane.

I agree and Yes we are approaching insanity

The big question is who initiated the contact?

If schools are testing the responsiveness of Nico, that's something we're probably doing with players also and likely how it works these days.

If Nico is testing the waters...... we have a problem that's not going to end well.

Hello all, If true? No hard feelings! He did well, serviceable but not a million dollar man! I personally saw nothing outstanding or really impressive...If he feels the need to be the next flop, his call! Next man up! Try all 14 schools.

Sorry but thats how I see it....Bring on Mac, and Merk..

If you marry then flirt around, you were never truly invested!

OP - I believe you and have serious doubts that Nico finishes his collegiate career here. I hope that I am wrong. Regardless, its my opinion that the pendulum has swung too far to the other side, giving players way too much control. This NIL stuff and transfer portal needs parameters very soon.
I think Nico will be a pretty good qb. But with his performance this year I don't see any team offering him more that he is getting at UT. Now if he has a real good year, they will and we will either have to match or lose him imo

Wondering how badly Sean Sparks ego was hurt when big Nic told him to kiss his ass and quit being a stalker?

have a buddy that works in the athletic department. he told me that there are some people over there who think this last portal cycle could end up being known as 'the calm before the storm'. he said those people think that schools were using this last cycle to get an idea who was willing to talk and that the next window will be when all 'heck' breaks loose and the money really starts flowing once teams see how desperate they are for certain positions after spring

First, there is no 100% predicting of the future. 2) You seem concerned about how you are personally underappreciated "I posted it on this board and was ridiculed." Let me strongly suggest that you review your self-esteem. 3) Everyone did not want to know anything yu posted. I, for one, certainly did not.

Pro Tip: If you don't want to be self-esteem challenged, don't post like a Goober.
Cleaned it up for you, Doctor. 😂

It's time for Nico to start thinking about the NFL. He needs to find a QB coach who can teach him how to throw the ball down the field.

Nico spoke directly with at least three schools, including Georgia and Oregon during the season about what it would take for him to transfer. 100% facts.
College football today. I hope our staff was doing some tampering too. If they weren't they're not doing their jobs.

Source that knows the what’s happening in the athletic departments of Bama, Miami, Georgia, and Oregon. A source that had information disclosed by all of those programs that is punishable by the NCAA. And this source that has all those programs trust is loose lipped enough to share? Yeah you’re FOS. Not kind of or a little but completely FOS.
You seem quite the hypocrite. I‘ve read your criticisms of others, including myself, when they have made derogatory comments of other posters yet here you are calling someone FOS. Maybe you should remember to practice what you preach.

I think good news is that w/ JH, we're starting to become a destination for QBs...which is great that the head coach and not OC is the reason for the attraction. Want Nico here, for sure, but if he bails, w/ present (Merklinger) and incoming talent (George McIntyre, Faison Brandon) at QB, I think, as a whole the QB position for the foreseeable should be a position of strength...which is much more than one can say for most of our SEC rivals. QB is the most important position in sports and think we're at least in a spot better than most if the worst happens and we are without Nico at some point.
