Nico Turned a Corner

the offense is improving in the first half. Yardage totals are going up since Arkansas. We have to finish drives and stop turning the ball over for it to show up on the scoreboard. You take away that bad bad pick Nico threw and turn it into a touchdown and make those field goals its a 34 point performance.
Not to mention Sampson’s fumble on the first drive and the bogus holding call on Brazzell that turned 1&10 from the 30 into a punt.

The offense is fine. Just have to play clean.

Nico started out rough again, then something happened. He got dinged and went out of the game. When he returned, the crowd started chanting “Nico, Nico” and he looked a lot different in a big way. He’s hitting passes and well timed runs. I think he grew up a lot in this game. The O Line stepping up helped as well. Great win!

I don't know if he magically became a more accurate passer but he certainly earned some leadership credibility and needed confidence!

Nitpickers are a dime a dozen on here.
6 and 1…ranked in top 10… beat Fl who by the way waxed Kentucky's ass….beat Al who some on here said we wouldn’t and some for only the 2nd time in your lives…..
How many QB’s could make that throw down the sidelines? To all nitpickers stfu and if your a true vol smoke you a big one and enjoy

Why do you attach our record to Nico?

I've been critical of his play this year, but he showed something in the 2nd half. Not just the throws. When he ran, he looked a lot more comfortable imo.

Hopefully, it's full steam ahead from here
*raises hand* I have also been critical of his play all year, but it looks like things are finally starting to click for him. Hopefully, he has finally turned the corner.

It also helps that his OL, especially the tackles, finally had a really good overall game. Not sure if people are mentioning that enough. They balled out and had a relatively clean game.

LSU fans say Joe burrow turned with his big hit in their bowl game… but in all seriousness I think the game slowed down for him in that second half… doesn’t mean it will continue just yet but I’ve never lost belief in Nico like a lot have… does he have to be better?? absolutely but I can’t remember a young Qb with as much plays called back as him…we did him little favors… so many times that should’ve been first and 10 with tempo have turned into 2nd and 3rd and long… that is tough for any Qb let alone a first year Qb in the sec… this microwave era always is so quick to throw Qbs away… you can’t simulate experience it takes time… he will be okay it’s just a matter of win I truly believe overcoming vs a rival will mentally allow him to really play free and loose and just make plays…

I’m just a fan with an opinion. I’m just say’n when I look at stats and give Nico the ol’ eye test, I’m not convinced yet he’s The One. He may be. Me and a lotta media/VFL types just aren’t quite convinced yet and I’m not going all in with my chips on Nico.

This thread says he’s turned a corner. That would mean 1.5 quarter. Not enough to make that proclamation.

Patience and fortitude. Time will tell. In the mean time, we all know staff is searching/recruiting talent.
Who are these “VFL’s” you speak of! Sources?

I think they need to run Nico early in the game, more often. Sometimes QB runs are what gets the juice going for many qbs.

Also forces the defense to defend another dimension of attack. Good things happen when your QB is capable of gashing a D unit.

That long pass to Thornton on the run was so freakin beautiful. You just know when that light comes on (maybe it has) , he's gonna drop jaws left and right .
I think when Oklahoma got after his butt he got a little gun shy, as he should have. When our line gives him 3 seconds, dude can deal. OL has to play better throughout the game.

That one play by Moore removed all doubt that this season hinges on Nico. Through the good and the bad we gotta support him and hope that Saturday something clicked in that 2nd half.

I’m looking forward and taking nothing for granted. Nico has not yet won me over as the future (let alone the present). There’s Juco, portal, recruiting. I am not ready to bet next year on Nico; plus, need to think backup.

Keep the talent coming and always put the best on the field.
Nico will be the future for at least the next 1 or 2 years

I like Nico, I hope he's the greatest ever, that said he's played well in one entire game and that was the bowl game last year. This year he has had a great half and a half that looked nothing like the great half. I don't know why or how this is happening, never seen anything like it before in any football and I'm in my 60's. The best thing I can say is this offseason I hope we have a true QB competition, I realize that was hard to do this year but should be possible going forward. May the best man win at ALL positions as it should be.

This is how I see it. Nico has not proven to me he’s the long term answer. Like you, I hope he finishes this season strong. I’d like to see 225 - 250 yrs of passing consistently and improved ball management.

If he’s “turned the corner” should be EZPZ.

He must run the football 8 to 10 times per game to be successful. It adds that extra dimension and reduces the bullrush from the Dline. He is a good runner in space and they must adjust for it. I think he has less chance of getting hurt running the football than standing in the pocket and getting creamed. I would roll him out on every passing play, so many options and the linemen have to chase him down which wears them down fast.

I’ve got a friend who says protect Nico at any cost. I say let the man ball.

He looked some better but one half isn’t convincing me he turned the corner. I think he is going to be a good ball player. He just has to use his head a little better. We will see in a couple of weeks if he’s turned the corner.

Wonder if the OL got a little freaked out when Nico got hurt and had to go out. Seems like they stepped it up a notch and Nico had more time.
