This is unreal for TN, 17 commitments and practice haven't even started.

Agreed, usually we finish stronger than we start. It looks like the coaches have adjusted pretty quickly to the trend of recruits signing earlier.

Took them awhile, but finally. I can't wait for the next pair of commits. A pair of DT's?

I see both of these guys as DE's here. Only because they are so big and run a 4.7 40.

I would feel more at ease if more of these commits were 4 and 5 stars instead of 3 stars...

Say what you want about rankings...thats 10 three stars and 5 four stars according to Rivals with only about 5-8 spots left...I would feel alot better if we filled those spots with mostly 4-5 star guys

Well, but I think we will finish strong as usual. I could see us getting MB and Moses, two five stars, and with the good possibility of getting Bonds, Telfort, White, and McGee (all 4 stars), we could look pretty good by the time its over.

Just because they're 3 star guys now doesn't mean they will be after their senior year.

I was just about to say something similar. We have a lot of cpmmitments who are supposedly on the rise, so some will move up to 4* and some will stay the same.

On the 3 JUCOs, I have read that Rufus is looking around and there is still concern over Hall's academics. Sykes is the closest thing to a verbal, so that would give us 18. Plenty of room for 1-2 WRs, 2 OL, 1-2 CB/S, 2 - DT, 1-2 LBs depending on who wants to commit.

When did you hear Rufus was looking around?

from Scout,
Mitchell-Thronton chose Tennessee over offers from more than 20 D-I schools including: Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Stanford, Marshall, North Carolina and Oklahoma State. He also picked up a late offer from Georgia, but it was too little, too late. In addition to attending UT’s senior camp in June, Mitchell-Thornton was in Knoxville in April to observe a Tennessee practice and get a feel for life on The Hill.

NMT looks great on film, and I too think he will end up playing DE. Great player with a great motor. With a good senior season, I think we will see his stock rise.

Another threeby? Come on. Four stars anyone?

You realize that there is usually little to no difference between a 3 and 4 star right? I could understand if we were signing 2 star LB's but the difference between a 3 and 4 star recruits is negligible unless you are one of the top 4 stars and they usually upgrade to 5 stars. Seriously, it's all a popularity contest and I'm glad our coaches are looking closely at players they like that fit our system whether they are a popular 4/5 star recruit or a more unknown 3 star or NR recruit with potential and more to prove. Besides, these kids haven't played their senior season of HS yet and recruits usually make the biggest improvements from their Jr. to Sr. year. We can sign a whole class full of 3 star recruits if they turn out like Jerod Mayo. The only reason I even care about most 5 star recruits is to judge our national prominence and ability to impress other recruits.

I'm sure these recruiting services could provide a solid explanation for why one kid is a two-star linebacker--ranked 50th best at his position--and another is a five-star LB and ranked 3. But if anyone thinks they REALLY know why they rank one player as, say, the 20th best LB and another as the 40th best, you are kidding yourself. It's all guess work, and not to be taken too seriously. I like what the Vols are doing with their recruiting this year--but yes, leave room for at least five true chips who will declare late, and get a couple of solid DTs!

From what I understand this kid just blew up our camp. The coaches were sold on him and the stars didn't matter.

Hmmm, the numbers game is going to be difficult once the season gets started. We have serious interest from at least 10 guys we couldn't say no to.
I agree, we are going to need to start pulling some offers to keep some scholarships open for our needed positions. At this point to take another RB in might be a kick in the teeth when we really need defensive positions filled.
