This is the event that Derek Reese is playing in for the Puerto Rican U19 National Team. Info | Nike Global Challenge It runs from July 13-15

Also, the US has 3 teams and there are a few UT recruiting targets scheduled to play http://www.nikeglobalchallenge.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/United-States-Participants6.pdf . Austin Nichols is not on the list on the web site but in his recuriting thread someone has posted that he is a late addition. Not sure if these games are going to be televised or even streamed. I am curious to see how Reese performs in this tournament, since the talent level at the even should be pretty high.

They do stream this (at least they did in the past) I can't find anything right now but I'm sure when the dates get close, we'll be able to find something.

I hope so. I am jonesing for anything football or basketball related. A person can only watch so much summer baseball.

lol. I've actually been watching a lot of the classic football / basketball games. I think I've watched UT -vs- Arkansas' 97 game 3 days in a row on MYVLT. Even watched an old Michigan / Sparty game and they love them some old school Kentucky games (rarely see older UT basketball games).

but when I moved to my new house last year, they hadn't installed my cable yet so I was stuck watching things on the internet for about a week. I remember the global challenge. I don't remember seeing other teams but Americans so it will be interesting to see how they stream the international competition. At worst, we'll get to see them get thumped by one of the american teams.

I've never heard of anyone other than Reese from the PR team. The other kid is from Miami but I'd be lying if I said I knew who he was.

TIFWIW, Reese is probably not going to be star on this PR team. Hope I'm wrong though.

I don't expect him to be a star, really, but since this is a tournament with guys all about his age and mostly D1 talent, we should at least get a good feel for what his talent level is. If he comes out and looks completely lost then he probably won't ever see the floor at UT and that will be dissapointing because I think Martin could have used the scholarship this year, the way things fell out. However, if he comes out and at least fits into the flow of the game, at his size he can be a solid defender on the wing and at least a nice role player at UT. I think the biggest knock most of us have had about this guy is that there is no real video of him against D1 talent (or much at all really). Hopefully this tournament will at least give us a decent look at his game.

Wow, led the team in points, rebounds, and minutes played. I look forward to seeing what he can do against the US team tomorrow. I didn't realize that this was being played in DC until just now. I would have planned on making it up for a game.

Wow. Nice stats. I wonder how good Lithuania is? Anyone know if they'll be playing any of the American teams soon?

Lithuania isn't big, two 6-8 guys and a couple of 6-6s, but the country traditionally has fielded solid Euro teams. Probably get a good read on them tonight when they play the USA Midwest team with Nick King and JaJuan Johnson.

Nonetheless, a good outing by Reese. This isn't Rocky Top League. I am pleasantly surprised.

In game 2 today, verse us west, Reese played 32min had 17pts and 8rbd. 8-19fg 0-6 3pt 1-2ft

Sounds like he might be a decent player if he would quit jacking up 3's. Martin will get that out of him.

I don't see him playing much this year since the wing is so loaded and from what pictures I have seen of him, he could really use a college S&C program. However, I am starting to feel a little better about him. Not light the world on fire better, but at least he is holding his own against some top competition.

Zansdad according to a few people today Reese is definitely a Post player not a wing. Just relaying what I have heard today. He is definitely a good rebounder.
