Ironically, he was noted by CCM and some recruiting gurus as a strong perimeter shooter.

Zansdad according to a few people today Reese is definitely a Post player not a wing. Just relaying what I have heard today. He is definitely a good rebounder.

Who are these people? And where did they say he was a post player? Kid took 13 3pt shots in 2 games today. That doesnt sound like a post player to me.

Zansdad just some regular ole people who attended some RTL games and had an opinion. Hell if you say he is a wing then he is a wing!!

Well it sounds to me like the kid is pretty versatile. Maybe Coach Martin knows what he's doing. It sounds like he can probably play the 3 or the 4 depending on where he might be needed the most. From what these people were saying and they are just fans like me he is as tall as Kenny Hall is or close. Now I saw Kenny Hall in Chattanooga at the SHOT clinic at Baylor. Kenny Hall looked 6-10 to me up close although he is listed at 6-9. I would say if Reese is that tall then he very well may grow into a 4 especially with his rebounding ability. He really knows how to position himself to rebound from what I understand. But so far he seems to be working at the 3. So it sounds like he is very versatile which is certainly what we want out of every recruit we sign.

I thought you meant you heard from people today as in regards to the Nike global games.

I attended the RTL games.
1. He's not a post, only points from the paint where off drives, rebounds or transition, not one post move.
2. He's not Kenny's height, flat out no way not even a debate, he's generously 6'8"
3. He's a "post" much like RW. 6'9" but would rather shoot jumpers and threes than bang in the post.
4. Guy makes McRae look like the hulk, never seen somebody so skinny, he would be abused in the post.
5. Just because he rebounds doesnt make him a post. Q and Chievous will rebound well, but they aren't posts.

Okay you have made some very good points BTO. I need to see him play and make my own judgment. Here is a thread from another site about Reese from someone who also attended RTL games.
"Watching him in the RTL he is a post. He has very good instincts when rebounding and has been schooled on positioning, it is quite obvious observing him up close. As I posted on another thread, I am not sure skinny is the right word. He is listed at 195 from what I have seen, but he has a strong base. His upper body could stand to gain some muscle, but his lower body is not skinny really at all and it was not easy to root him out from the blocks when players tried."

So I guess I will have to wait to make my own judgment. But I would say he could be destined for the 4 considering his 3 pt. pct needs work and the fact the Vols have 6 other Wing type players on the roster.

The Nike challenge uses the international 3pt line, which is deeper than the college one. But still 2 for 13 means its time to quit shooting.
I agree with that part.

As a senior in high school, Reese was 30 of 102 from 3s. In RTL, he was 11-48. In this tournament, 2-13. That's a combined 43-163 - for 26%. I think those are enough shots in action to be a trend.

His two point shooting in those venues was 58-137; 21-39 and now 13-21. That's a combined 92-197 - or 46 pct.

If he's going to score on the next level, it's sure looks like it's going to have to be inside the arc.

Here is another comment on another site comparing Reese to Woolridge.
"
Not really and I'll tell you why. Swiper never really adapted to being a low post guy and it showed in his lack of playing time, even when Hall got suspended Swipers minutes never really went up at the 4. Reese at this age has better tools and instincts for the 4 than Swiper ever did IMO and they are basically the same height. Renaldo is a much better shooter, I'll give you that, but I will be surprised if Reese ever plays much at the wing, especially since we have 6 of those guys already."

Anyway it sounds like Reese is very versatile and that is always what you want in a recruit.

With as bad of a shooter Swiper was, and he's supposedly a lot better shooter than Reese, I don't know if I want him ever shooting then.

He could end up eventually playing the 3/4. To think that right now he is a post though just isn't accurate. Not really fair to talk about positioning in the post in the RTL. Id like to see his positioning in a SEC game against Nerlins Noel and see how he fairs.

195 or whatever they said he was is too skinny for the post, whether it's lower or upper body, overall he needs to be bigger. Woolridge was 20lbs heavier, hall is almost 30 lbs heavier, and both those guys were talked about as being a bit thin in the post.

I like that Reese has scored well against these teams and rebounded very well as well. I agree the 3 point shooting needs to slow down until he shows vast improvement, and even then probably shouldn't be 6 a game. He has the size to be what people thought about RW, a complete mismatch at the wing position who can slide to the 4 for limited minutes if needed as well.

As Zans said, I feel a little better about Reese than i did prior to these games. Not that he'll be a starter, but in a year or 2 could probably be a solid role player, his scoring has really surprised me.

Well BTO keep feeling good about Reese. Here is Sat.'s update on Reese from the KNS

"Derek Reese led all scorers again today, logging 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting in loss to USA Midwest at the Nike Global Challenge.

He keeps getting it done. Go Vols!

21 points is nice. The fact that Reese had 21 of the team total of only 59 is really quite impressive. Especially since it looks like the US Midwest team might be the best team there.
