NIL will not work without a-

It is becoming apparent that championships will be bought and not earned in the future. There is no game to that. Just like Alabama buying championships in the past. The system will eventually bankrupt itself.

As a fan for longer than 50 years I am beginning to realize there are a lot of more important things than college athletics that deserve my attention and finances. How much are we paying students who will be future teachers or nurses who really have an impact on society? Or even the future doctors and scientists? Over inflated ego athletes are sinking on my lists.

Yup I'm old enough to remember Albert Means. They have always cheated they just didn't get good at it till Saban arrived.
Because the only reason Saban took the job was because they would give all control of the program and the media covering the program. That stopped any scrutiny of the program operations.

The media and the SEC did nothing about scandals involving textbooks, tailored suits, and Dodge Chargers. I remember the NCAA nailing UT and Nebraska for giving the players phone cards to call home when over 100 other NCAA schools were documented doing the same thing. But no action was taken against those schools.

They just need to have fully dedicated professional referees in college football. Plain and simple. It’s clear the guys that are doing it are not capable of knowing the rules, and applying the rules consistently. We’ve seen too many examples of blown calls or just straight up baffling calls, sometimes after a review. There are absolutely “losing team needs to get back in the game” calls happening, which is a problem in itself but who knows where that decision is coming from. There were some calls in the ND/UGA game last night that were absolutely baffling and most went in favor of the team that was losing. Obviously there are dead ball penalties they have to call - false start etc - because everyone can see it. There’s too many examples of this happening and it’s becoming more apparent every year.
I Don’t watch pro sports anymore but when I did the football refs were no different. Watch YouTube and see how obvious calls are, or not called.
I flipped to the PSU / Boise State game. PSU was up 10 and BS scored a TD. Flag for hands to face against BS. Announcers said it was against right guard. Replay showed no hands. They said maybe right tackle. Again replay showed no hands. I turned channel. I don’t think they were going to allow Boise to close the score that close late in the game.

ND winning a football championship is never a feel good story unless it's over Gump or UGA or Gata.
I agree .I cant say what i want on here .Was saying feel good in the since they rebuilt the cathedral..Can yall imagine how many times we would hear that crap during the championship game by herbsucks and fouler.
But if they win maybe the pope will grant us indulgents and forgive our sins ..

Salary caps are illegal without a congressional exemption. So, that’s completely out of the question.
Plus NIL is not salaries anyway. It's basically endorsement money. The basic point of the NIL rulings is players own their own NIL. So if the NCAA don't own it and colleges don't own it, how can they cap it?

It is also not clear to me that the NCAA is a sports league in the sense that the NFL is a sports league. The college playoffs are totally outside of the NCAA. I can't imagine the NFC could ever decide to have its own Super Bowl...at least not without officially withdrawing from the NFL to form its own league.

The lack of enforcement of the rules by the NCAA is what got us here. The desire to make every team equal is a pipe dream. All college football is today is a minor league for the NFL which honestly is all it's ever been. They should look at a baseball or hockey type system with a few tweaks where out of High school they can be drafted and put in a specific development league or opt to play college ball with a new pay provision set in place and if that provision is not followed to the letter you loose the ability to play in college and are able to play in only in the pro development league or the Pro's.

So the games will no longer get played?
The trophy is going to be awarded in the preseason to the team with the biggest NIL budget?

That will simplify things. 🙄🙄🙄

With the limit of the number of scholarship players going up to 105, I doubt if they will go with any kind of cap. The lower schools will become the minor leagues for the bigger “pocket” schools.

Make them sign multi year contracts. If they break it pay the consequences stated in the contract. But this will only work if it’s a rule mandated by the NCAA or the future college football commissioner.
No one can make them sign for more than one year due to the Ohio vs NCAA federal court ruling on transfers.

Tampering violations, once monitored and enforced, should give the NCAA some teeth again.
Nope.

1. The NCAA tampering rule is another of the NCAA rules that violate the law. It's another on a long list of their rules that violate the Sherman Act, because it's anti competitive. There NCAA no longer makes a pretense ig enforcing it.

2. The way the rule is written, it doesn't rule out contact with through an intermediary, like a NIL collective or a booster.

3. Something the NCAA has not thought of would be a third party using a private web site to advertise that a school is looking for a transfer running back, safety, or kicker. I expect that sooner rather than later.
