They're not quite the pushover you may think. I've got season tickets for them and know the roster like the back of my hand. They can play with us if the 3s start falling.
The Sugar Bowl means nothing. It's for nothing. If you win a Final Four game, you play for the national championship. If you win the Sugar Bowl, you get squat.
I won't deny that getting to a BCS bowl means more, but as far as actually watching the game and caring about the outcome, I find the experiences similar. I don't care any more about actually winning a BCS bowl once we get there than I do about winning the NIT, which is to say I care, but I'm not losing sleep over it.
I've only been following them for 30 years or so. They have an occasional player come out of their basketball (Sam Mitchell) or baseball programs and make a pro team; but let's not kid ourselves, or anybody else... historically they're a joke.
Made 2 NCAA tourneys in their history, in '81 and '85, losing in the 1st round both times; and this is their first NIT trip.
What's your final four this year?
I will know tomorrow after I vet the brackets better what 4 I like. There is 1 team I liked preseason (have the proof) that barely broke the top 25 pre-season who is now a #1 seed.
The NIT should be taken seriously. It is very tough BUT it is important. The Vols will be special next year. VERY special and I am being very objective. Many of you already know this but let me confirm TENNESSEE will be at Cowboys Stadium. I will be more specific on my thoughts in June after the inevitable happens and everyone returns.
Stay strong Vol nation your time is next year.
