NLDS: Braves vs. Giants

Melky, Great catch and throw. Matt Cain RBI single. Hanson struggling in big spots tonight

Heyward gets called out on a pitch 6 inches off the plate. The Braves are anemic but getting no help.

Told a friend of mine this morning that we were going to learn a lot about young Mr. Hanson tonight, one way or the other. Didn't quite go the way that I had hoped.

If we only had JJ healthy we could have put off that revelation for another year or so.

Jurrjens was mediocre all year even when he ostensibly wasn't hurt. If "24 year old pitchers with arm trouble" were a stock, I wouldn't buy any of it. Last year at this time, you could talk yourself into thinking that the Braves had two potential Cy Young winners in their rotation. At this point I think my money might be on Mike Minor over both of them.

Obviously JJ wasn't as good as last year or as advertised for this year, but I still think he would have been the third starter for the post season. And good Lord, does Hewyard have to start swinging at any pitch in the general Bay area to not be rung up on strikes?

Well that's really the rub, isn't it? Because whether it would have been Jurrjens or Hanson in the rotation, Tim Hudson is actually the third starter. And the guy who was by far the Braves' best pitcher all year isn't going to get into a game until the series is close to over.

And I love Heyward's plate discipline, but he's going to have to learn that sometimes he's going to have to expand his strike zone a little bit. Not just because he's going to run into umpires who are going to expand it for him whether he likes it or not, but because this team doesn't have many other guys to drive runs in.

Not sure I like bunting the runners over in front of Alex Gonzalez.

EDIT: I mean Bobby Cox is a GENIUS!!!!!!!11111

I gotta get up and drive to Athens for the game in seven hours. Please please please please let this not go to extra innings.

I'm feeling Heyward reaching out and poking one over the wall down the left field line in the top and Wagner making it VERY interesting in the bottom half.
