UCONN had no bench depth, no height, was young and inexperienced, and had some glaring defensive issues. Yet, they made it to the final four and incurred only one season long loss.
Hard to predict or account for that. Unless, of course, they have some coaching.
Well we didn't get one this year but there is always next year and as a UConn fan that actually means something. All in all I can't say I expected this team to get that far to begin with. Back in August I was predicting a 5 loss S16 year so I can't be too disappointed. As the year went on I began to think I had as good of a chance as anyone. I am really pleased with the player development and am excited about what we have coming back. I want to see Samuelson in a championship game and I hope she gets there next year. Time to start a new streak so everyone can complain about it again.
Happy for MSU and I hope the mentorship between Schaefer and Auriemma continues. I also hope the FF run helps MSU recruit. Unfortunately, they couldn't finish their historic run and lose to SC but it's good that a new team won. I would rather MSU won just because of the storyline and the press I think the sport would have gotten. Also because I think they did beat the two best teams in the tourney and up until the final week of the regular season before they kind of fell apart they were in line for a #1 seed. It's not like they were garbage or anything. Props to SC though for getting the job done.
For all the talk about UConns dominance being bad for the sport we have seen 4 new teams in the FF in the last 2 years and 7 new teams (correct me if I'm wrong going off my own memory here) in the last 5. I say keep it up WCBB, close the gap so those who don't watch can stop being parrots and watch a few games to find something out for themselves.
UCONN has a great basketball program, but if UCONN played in the SEC there would not be a win streak that came remotely close to the win streak that just ended. The AAC is extremely weak.
U recall that game too?!
Make me wnna go thru my basement to find that DVD or VHS lol.
We were so favored to win that year too.
Oh do I! Semeka was still injured from some no name girl from some rinky dink school undercutting her at TBA, and they nearly beat Chamique to death...no fouls called. Pat had not wanted that region (but Chamique did); I've wondered if she had an idea how bad the home cooking would be.
Still remember Mique crying in Pat's arms at the end of the game. Made me mad 😡 then and still does now. Losing is losing, it happens. That was outright theft.

Brother is still kicking. Hospital wants to kick him out(nursing home?) because they say there is nothing more they can do for him. He's a tough ole bird!
