while i agreed that the majority of obese ppl are lazy and have horrible diets, there is a small percentage who honestly can't control their weight no matter what they do.

I agree but a business should still be free to charge what the market will bear for their services even if it includes charging fatties more.

It's very difficult to lose weight, especially for women. We are built differently than men. Bama doesn't understand ANY of that.

that just isn't true. women and men lose and gain weight the same way unless you are arguing a pound or two when on your period somehow has any effect on you losing weight long term. which is ridiculous. it's a copout women use when their husbands are losing weight and they aren't. men are more disciplined. that is why they lose weight faster. every study has shown it's all about calories in and calories out. gender is not relavant.

Well in my experience, not personally but by watching others I am close to. When exercising together, eating the same meals, etc etc....the man ALWAYS drops lbs faster than the woman.

Also women are genetically designed to carry more fat than men. Men are built to be more muscular.

Therefore we agree to disagree?

women shouldn't be eating the same meals as their men because as you point out they have a higher fat % and generally aren't as tall. they should eat less calories. muscle weights more than fat though, so it's actually not a disadvantage to carry more fat when it comes to losing weight.

sure we can agree to disagree :p

That's propaganda. Not at all true. The human body CAN NOT manufacture calories. There is NO disorder known to mankind that causes obesity.

"Wear and tear" is part of the cost of doing business. It should be factored in accordingly.

Should a handicapped person be charged more for a meal because the restaurant is required to build a ramp for access?

You have no argument on this. The handicapped argument is ignorant.

Let me ask you a question (this applies to everyone who feels this is discrimination): Let's say a Thin Person and an Obese person take a trip to a local McDonald's. The thin person orders a number 1 combo in the small size and pays $6. The obese person orders a Large number 1, Two number 5's and two Applie Pies. The thin person paid for enough food that would fill them up and satisfy their hunger. Would it be appropriate for the Obese person to demand to pay the exact same amount of $6 despite ordering much more food since they too ONLY ordered what would satisfy their hunger?

Also - If you feel this is discrimination, then Every clothing store in America is in trouble since many of them charge a little extra for larger size shirts, pants. etc.

The thyroid argument is largely a copout and an excuse for obese people to eat whatever they want. They can't help it - they have thyroid problems. riiiiiiiiggggggghhht!!!!

wow that's quite the post. First, the McD example doesn't work because there are set values assigned to each item. Order more and pay more. The example would need to be that the thin person was charged $6 and the obese person was charged $10 for the same items. Assigning an arbitrary value to a service because of what the person looks like is borderline retarded for a business owner. Second, no one has said that all obese people have thyroid issues but dismissing the possibility that it happens to a small part of the population is ridiculous. And last I've never seen different prices for sizes unless you're going 2x and above. Small-XLarge don't really change

Thyroid issues were dismissed in the medical community 15 years ago as a CAUSE for massive weight gain. Persons with legitimate thyroid issues actually control weight best with a diet based on their blood type. Everyone really should should eat according to blood type.

Thats what I am referring to. According to many of you, that is discrimination. Patrons should reserve the right to charge more for obese individuals if it makes business sense. (Such as eating more food, using more fabric to make clothing, repairing/replacing items more frequently due to large weight, etc.).

Obese people who decide to drive the little HANDICAPPED motor scooters at stores like Target and Wal Mart should be required to pay to use them and be banned from buying anything unhealthy that will contribute to weight gain if they are using a motor scooter. God forbid they actually WALK around a store.

The lack of tolerance on this board astounds me. While we are at it, let's ban carts on the golf course too. And make them damn old people give up their canes, wheelchairs and those stupid electric wheel chairs they use at home. And how about all those lazy eyes out there...ban them damn glasses. I am tired of seeing those 4 eyes.

So you are comparing obese individuals to those who have physcal issues due to the natural progression of old age and to those who were born with a physical defect?

So these people CHOSE to become old? They made a decision to forgo will power and CHOSE to have a Lazy Eye?

So I am guessing that all obese people were born obese. They were born as 30lb infants? Nothing they did in their life caused them to become that way?

Ironically, I work with several obese people with congestive heart failure and help them with their diet so that they can live longer.

The more obese the faster the metabolism. Fact.

Metabolism is really just a broad generic term that describes chemical processes in the body. Most people use the word specifically to describe burning calories for energy but actually the majority of the responsibility of it is to build and maintain tissue. (anabolism and catobolism)
Thyroid releases hormones that tell the body how many calories that it needs to burn for energy or how much new tissue needs to be built or how much tissue needs to be repaired. Most people with "thyroid problems" actually have problems with their hypothalamus or pt gland not communicating properly.

Interestingly, more people have HYPERthyroidism which causes them to stay rail thin than have HYPOthyroidism which allows for easy weight gain. Hyper is not often diagnosed because most don't view it as a health problem.
