Am I the only Vol fan that wants to see the Vols underrated. I would love for Trev Alberts to continue his talking. I would like to see us ranked 8th or 9th in the nation for two reasons.

1. It will take some of the pressure off of a relatively inexperienced quaterback.

2. It will motivate the team. If UT goes undefeated with its schedule, they will be number 2 in the nation come bcs time.

It doesn't matter what we are ranked, we still have the same players and the same schedule. Players don't perform less simply because they are ranked high in some nat'l mags and preseason polls.
Besides, anyone would be stupid not to rank the Vols high this year. Where else should we be ranked instead top 3?
We are the best returning football team in the SEC. It still must be played out on the field, but preseason rankings are half potential and half what you accomplished last year. Vols are held high in both of those regards.

Hell no. I want UT to get as much publicity as possible.

Then win with the publicity

No we seem to be more focused as underdogs last years Cotton Bowl would be a perfect example as opposed to the two prior Peach Bowls

They didn't get screwed by the BCS. There were three undefeated teams.

any team that goes undefeated in the sec and still doesn't get crowned national champ is thereby screwed by the system in my opinion.

Sorry but the SEC can't just be automatically deemed the best by every voting organization every season.

i didn't say that but it is very hard to go undefeated in sec play. as opposed to usc's schedule which was them playing cupcakes except california.

Auburn did get screwed. That is a fact.

But that is life. Move on. UT has gotten screwed in games before.

Actually I think Fresno State and Arizona State are the toughest teams on their schedule this year California was so overrated last year they didn't beat a single quality team the whole season

Auburn got what Auburn deserved. When you play a AA team and the others don't then you lose out.

Auburn did get screwed, and the only way we can change the system is to rail and moan about it until the media and the BCS have had enough of the moaning and they make changes that will eliminate the next screw job.

Moving on and letting bye gones be bye gones never motivates change.

It is our job as fans to write letters, more letters, and then write again.

That gets results.

What if Auburn got dumped by a IA school and had to schedule at the last minute?

You play 1 AA teams no matter what reason you don't deserve to be included in any championship. As for Auburn there were other options that they didn't want to go with. So for my money they didn't deserve any shot at the Championship. Do I think they could have won it? Yes, but I don't think they deserved to be in it.
So as far as I'm concerned no they didn't get screwed. Yes, I would think the same thing if UT played a 1-AA team.

Don't think you can ever use that argument to defend Auburn's schedule. UAB or Troy would play Auburn in a parking lot if given the chance.

USC has no choice but to play the teams in their own conference. However, outside of their conference they played Virginia Tech, BYU, and I believe Hawaii. They also dismantled and embarassed the "mighty" Oklahoma Sooners. Auburn had a chance to schedule teams outside of their conference and chose to play The Citadel and Louisiana-Monroe. Also, don't forget that USC beat Auburn in both 2002 and 2003. Anyway, why are we so mad that an SEC team didn't win a Nat'l Championship? Wouldn't that have hurt Tennessee in recruiting and added to Auburn's trophy case? Screw the SEC. I'm for the Vols not the stupid conference we play in.

Last time UT played a AA team was 1983. There is proof you don't need to schedule a AA team if your from one of the Big 5 Conferences (Big 10, Big 12, ACC, SEC, Pac 10)

The ONLY possible reason I can think of to schedule a 1-AA team is in a case like UGA occasionally scheduling Ga Southern in order to throw a bone to the south GA fans and help out an in state school by giving them a big check. I'm not sure I agree with it, but at least in that case there's some logic behind it.

I could be wrong, but I think they were D1 at the time. That was back when Walt Harris was coaching there.
