Yes I hate Cal as much or more than anybody, hated him way before UK, and he's a good recruiter, great because he's a filthy, dirty cheater (check everywhere he's ever been). And it should have followed him like Jim Tressel. The dirt bag shouldn't have ever had the fortune to land in Kentucky.
BUT, he has really impressed me with his coaching since he's been there. Yes he gets tons of talent, but to get those freshmen superstars to play as a team, and play defense like they do, to beat some really good coached junior and senior laden teams and win a championship, in those kids first year playin college ball......unbelievable. I hate it.
I don't blame ya for disliking him. He has a sketchy track record and has coached at two of UTs rival schools.

our top 4-5 teams should be able to hang toe-to-toe with the top 4-5 of any conference.

Absolutely. Especially with Cuse and Pitt headed out of the big east.

The big east losing those 2, and Calhoun retiring...the BE could fall down to the 3rd best conference.

I hate UK, but the one positive is the image it gives our conference.

I don't think he'll match the talent but he'll have more than enough to compete and beat UK. UT will eventually be our biggest challeng, especially in the 2013-14. UT, UF, and UK will be top 10 teams next year, IMO.
Cal will keep setting records landing top 5 players but I'm amazed that he gets what he does from them replacing half his team every season.
I'm betting he's NOT going to get lucky on the chemistry every season.
Those will be the seasons we ream them.

You would think. Eventually, at some point, he's going to recruit a couple kids who are bad apples and ruin the team. His freshman all seem to be well rounded kids (except Cousins) and eventually he's going to have chemistry issues.

He's also eventually going to get some busts...you'd think.

I looked it up the other day...

Since at Kentucky...he has recruited like 11 guys who started at Kentucky and finished at UK(either draft or graduation)...all of them went pro.

His track record at UK, it's insane. Like 15 NBA guys in 3 years...insane. You have to think e eventually misses on a few.

We can bash Cal for his in game strategies all we want, but at some point we have to give him major, major props for his ability to blend a team together. It's right up there with Wooden and his teams of Kareem/Walton for UCLA in terms of getting a team to buy in.

I bleed Orange, but I'm happy with everything Calipari accomplishes.
I pull for KY whenever TN's season ends.
With the coach we have now success in KY is going to translate to success at TN.
Said it before and I'll say it again, Martin is a driven man.
He won't rest until he's putting teams on the floor that rival KY.
I can honestly see a rivalry in the future like Duke and NC in the ACC fighting for NCs every season.
Am I drunk on the Martini? You tell me.

I can't stand Cal or UK and will never pull for them. After the way a lot of them acted when Pearl was at UT, I'd pull for Satan himself if his team was up against the cats.

Do you honestly think CM stays at UT if he has anywhere near the success that Cal has had at UK? I don't, he'd be gone so fast it would make your head spin. I can legitimately see a case where Duke, UNC, Louisville, and Kansas could all be looking for a coach in the not so distant future, maybe UK too. Do any of you think UT would match the money those folks would be throwing around? I don't think there's anyway UT pays a basketball coach 3+ million bucks.

Well i hope he stays at UT. Calhoun went to Uconn when they were nothing and decided to stay and create his own legacy there. He made them a top 10 program. I might just be too optimistic but hopefully CCM will want to raise UT among the elites.

Well, Cal and his assistants seem to be really talented at scouting players that wont be busts. I don't think its a coincidence we haven't had one yet. Our 09-10 didn't exactly play great team ball but then again we had a straight thug on our team (cousins) and a guy who couldn't wait to jump to the pros. They won from pure talent alone. If there's a team that doesn't gel it'll probably be this one.

When it becomes evident that Tennessee is a better basketball school than football school...we will start coughing up the big bucks.

In case you didn't know, pearls salary was getting way up there.

You have success in any sport and the UTAD usually will pay you well.

K has had great assistants too...everyone has their busts, I'm pretty confident Cal will til eventually.

I'd probably hate him too if he didn't coach here. Would you hate him if he was hired at UT and had similar teams to ours?

A Vol fan posted that if we won an SEC title with Petrino as coach, it would be like seeing his daughter win an award as a top porn star. That's how I would feel if we won with Calipari.

He's the same guy he was when he coached at Memphis.
