No Opponent Offensive Holding penalties in SEC play

And with you know who next week, will likely be 4 games
Thank you. This needs to be said as loudly as possible. I would shake someone’s hand if they made a sign for SEC Kickoff.

The SEC can fine our coaches, players, and staff, but not the fans. It’s our privilege as well as our duty in supporting the team to draw attention to a problem.
Many of you don’t know of Steve Shaw and his history of calling our games; especially when we play(ed) Florida!
Correct. Still don’t know.
Didn't this happen last year? Something like 11 or 12 straight quarters with no live ball penalties called on TN opponents?

Happening again. With TNs defense, it's hard to believe there arent holdings or other penalties taking place
It definitely happened last year. We’ll miss the playoffs if it continues to happen this year. It costs the offense points and costs the defense momentum every game.

Blowing the whistle early on DS run was BS as well. He momentum was never stopped.
True, but that's a judgement call. Typically I think a ref will err on the side of caution to prevent potential injury to the player(s).

That is the worst crew in the SEC. Fla had our Def Lineman in head locks and nothing called.
What bothered me on the Nico runs for a first down he was 5 yards or more past #74 Campbell and the ref glanced at Nico then looked back at Campbell ending his block and it did a funky twist on the O-lineman around his shoulder pads (FLAG). I do not know enough about the nuances of the holding penalty but it is very subjective. To me as a novice, if the play (ball carrier) is down field I would just do a no call unless it was a personal foul. Just looked like he was looking for something and the same ref called another about the same circumstance. Those both put us way behind the chains and killed both drives. These and the Nico read fumble just about summed up the 1st half and crippled the offense kept us spinning our wheels IMO. Refs can control the game I just hope all are honest and are just making human mistakes.

I get that it is a judgement call, but the officials reserve the right to call plays like that after the finished result. We had the game winning score taken away from us in the Music City Bowl, against Purdue, when there was no whistle and the play was allowed to finish. I sat [10 rows] from the play and rewatched the replays.

That does not protect the players, no matter how you look at it.

Last year vs Bama penalties

VOLS 8
Bama 1 (for 5 freakin yards)
One year Bama O-Line got no holding calls complete season, saw an article on it. Said no official records on this part of the game but they thought that was probably first time a team went through a year with no holding called.

IIRC, Bama going into that game, was a team in the lead for penalties and then they turned into a disciplined/flawless team against the VOLS?.

This season have any of our opponents been called for offensive holding? If so, how many.
How many times have we been called for offensive holding? If so, how many.

Campbell might have more holding calls against him than our SEC opponents combined .

I have PTSD from that still as I watched it right in front of me from the stands.

I've wondered the same thing. I've been actively looking for stats on this, but I can't seem to find it.

What if I told you that:

the opponents of these teams have been called for the following live ball penalties while their opponents are on offense:
LSU: 24
A&M: 25
MO: 19
Texas: 15
Georgia: 15
Bama: 15

TN:6 !!!!
There is no way that is a coincidence. Also, the holding calls against Tennessee only seem to be called when we have big plays.

We cant control the Ref's we have to just play mistake-free football and to be honest that's been the case all of CJH's years.. his QB's/offense does not turn the ball over much. I think if Nico attempts more designed runs the holding stuff will tone down. Refs do not like our offense the pace and the splits stress them out physically and mentally. Imagine having to watch that much of the field and move around so fast? It has to tax their conditioning and mental. Not excusing the bad calls just saying there is reason it happens that's not as nefarious as people might think. Though I am pretty sure some of it comes from frustration. The refs want break as much as the opposing defense.

I get that every fanbase believes this happens, but the difference here is that actual metrics back it up for UT. And anecdotally, the holding calls always seem to come after a big gain and stall momentum.

Given the disparity, it clearly isn't just chance. There is something happening and causing this. I have zero hope for the game this weekend, it may actually get worse.

Last year against Bama it was 8 penalties on UT to Bama's lone penalty for delay of game. Then the call on our KO return FRONT LINEMAN apparently signaling for a fair catch pinned our actual return guy inside the 5 for our first possession in the second half. That was totally bogus. It may have happened in other games, but you have to WANT to call that, and that is a big issue that needs to be called out and explored, especially in a game where the penalty difference is what it was in that game.

I mean some of it is BS but when you play sloppy some of that also brings more attention to the Oline. We had linemen that were sloppy at times and exhausted, poor technique as well. That’s going to get some flags thrown.

Bama though the BS will be set to maximum level

Fans should make signs that have these stats on them and get them on the pregame on TV and such. Players and coaches can’t comment on it, but as someone else mentioned fans can and if stuff like this gets legs you can bet your ass the SEC officials would know and make sure to call it as fairly as possible to not further the narrative
