No reason we should have lost this game

Stokes and Maymon played poorly in the post especially defensively and you cannot keep bricking free throws. I do think we have a point guard now and expect we will be a good team. Got to have better play inside. CM either wins and gets to the NCAA with this team or he will be out. I am still confident the Vols will get the job done.

So we play 2 exhibition games and don't run any offensive plays. Q plays 13 minutes tonight and 0 minutes in 2 exhibition games. I just don't understand the prep work.

Don't kid yourself...Xavier is not a very good team. We should have won this game by 15 points. They will not be in the tournament this year. A watered down Big East won't get as many bids as previous years. This isn't a horrible loss but it's pretty bad.

You mean the preeminent basketball conference in the country? Solid point bro.

Terrible d# from the start, dislike how they let nerdy fatty score easy basket. I don't understand why Vols shooting too much behind the arc in 1st half...

The defense was terrific in the first half. 24 points in the first 19:53 and then a prayer by Myles. The D in the first half was the only reaso. We were in it. Next

Look fellas I like Coach Martin. I appreciate everything he has gone through to get to this level especially overcoming cancer. I appreciate how he rose from the mean streets of East St Louis to become the man he is. As a former Memphis hs coach I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. He also played in the tough Big Ten for one of the all time greats...but with that said something is missing from his preps and his abliity to relate his gameplan to the players. They had more talent than Xavier...their weakness was speed and quickness. The white kid ate them alive inside all night...2nd and 3rd shots off missed attempts...lack of rebounding makes me want to crash my head against the wall...I was a fanantic about rebounding and free throws and we all know how many they missed tonight...there is something missing and it has been missing since Day 1...I hope he can turn this around...I would honestly hate to see him fired.

UT mens sports hasn't been miserable for you lately? You must like first round NIT exits, 5-7 Football and 15 to 20 win baseball seasons

Not even slightly what I'm referring to. This thread was started with about 5 minutes to go in a game that closed to within 2 in the last 10 seconds.

The story in this game wasn't talent or quickness or being under prepared. It is the fact that Martin built a team to play physical, aggressive defense and the rules are completely screwed up now.

We'll have to adjust big time.

I'm not throwing in the towel yet, but the offense need to change or this is going to be a very long season. I can not believe that after a whole year with the same core players on the team we come out and play like that. Clearly not the players fault. Yes shots were not falling but thats when Cuonzo needs to have a go to play to end the drought or at least tell Mcrae to drive and get fouled. This offense was pitiful, and with the new rules Mcrae/Barton/Richardson should be averaging at least 25 free throws a game combined. Hope Cuonzo figures something out or this is going to be a long season.

I agree with you here.

Coached in Memphis...coached against Hardaway...coached against Big Al Jefferson and Monta Ellis in MS. This team has no fire, no motivation and no plan. Defensively they can't hedge and recover...or at least tonight they did a poor job. They play very lazy. I like Jarnell Stokes and I am glad he thought enough of Tennessee to become a Vol but if he is a NBA calibur player he doesn't show it...slow...slow...slow. Al Jefferson would make a midnight snack out of him. Cuonzo just doesn't have it on this level.

then you coached against me

Clearly not the players fault for shooting way too quickly in the possession, missing put backs, and shooting under 50% on free throws.

Good call man.

It's one game. Goodness, get a grip.

What did you see to tonight that was different/better than last year? The offensive flow? Maybe it was the free throw shooting? Oh, I know, it was the way Mamon dominated. Could it have been the way a 6' walk on scored at will against what is supposed to be our best defender? Do tell what you saw that keeps you with such a good grip.

Heebs you think Cuonzo could have told them not to just chuck up shots or at least run a go to play to kind of get the team going after scoring 9 points in 15 minutes. 9 points in the first 15 minutes is not all on the players granted some bad shots and missed free throws but thats when the coach steps in calls a timeout and runs a scoring play out of it.

Maymon hasn't played in 19 months. Stainbrook is 6-10 not 6 foot, and the new rules are completely contrary to what Tennessee does on the defensive end.

Coaches don't make decisions mid play. You can tell guys to do something all you want but when you're pressing and shots aren't falling you make bad decisions unless you've learned from your mistakes. Our guys didn't in the first half and it doomed us.

Agree to some extent Heebs Xavier only scored 67 points with about 4 at the end on free throws which is 63. Thats a good defensive game only allowing 63 points over 40 minutes and minus mcrae's threes at the end we werre at 58. Sorry but thats on the offense not the defense

Heebs...One other thing where the f was Mcrae the whole second half besides the end?? kinda screwed us there

#0 was throwing it up from everywhere. They had to take Richardson off him and give him to Barton to guard. Mamon played twice in the last couple of weeks. So, if not Mamon then it was the dominating 5 point 4rebound jewel turned in by Stokes that wowed you. Wait, has he played in the last 19 months?

TN - 3 Pointers 8-19 = loss of 22 possible points in the paint or 33 if they were all made LOL

Xavier - 3 Pointers 2-8

Have any of you complainers actually played any level of competitive team basketball?

Why does our freakin fan base ALWAYS question the character of other fans....Did you ever play professional, organized football? NO!! What if he or she didn't?! What does that have ANYTHING to do with a fan being frustrated or upset?! Most of us aren't too happy with this performance and loss. I don't know about you! Yeah, we battled til the end...but tell me...why is it ALWAYS too little too late with this soft team?
