"@SDS: #Tennessee is the only team in CFB that doesn't return a starter on either line of scrimmage for 2014."

Knew we weren't returning players on the line but when it's put like this it's kind of shocking. Thanks Dools for bringing in good young talent in the trenches, bud!

The former coach has nothing to do with the fact that everyone ended their Tennessee tenure at the same time. If you think last year's 2nd string is bad, then that's a different story.

There will be some major growing pains on both lines this season. Hopefully by mid-season we will start to see some real improvement.

I have heard that the O-line consistently underachieved this year. Don't know if it was attitude or what. Maybe it is better that the decks have been cleared.

I think the DL will be better. We will have a couple of grinders on OL. Not sure how to predict their performance, but we have a couple of nasty ones.

This is why I'll be happy with 6-6 next year.

There are many reasons to be excited about the future, but 2014 will be rough due to this fact. Hopefully it will be our last year of fighting just to get to a bowl game.

Our DL really never had great penetration. One sr DE got his first sack in the last game and neither DE ever played the edge well as teams ran around our ends all the time. You don't have to have great experience to play better than they did. I mean, JS would just get shoved inside all the time. If teams needed to run, they ran at/around him.

Yeah that's not Dooleys fault. Kiffins mainly and Fulmer a little.

Just prepare for a long year this year. Next year we should be an 8 win team IMO. (Yeah I know its way too early to think about next year)

Our oline totally sucked last year. Richardson is a good guy and a VFL, but it's insane that he's a potential first rounder. He was our worst lineman.

OL can be debated and there were many mixups but they did avg more per carry than in a long time. Top 5 season on ypc, iirc. Hard to argue too much that they sucked with that average.

This is true, last year's guys had experience but talent-wise our departures from last year were below SEC average.

My concern for 2014 is whether our guys have enough S&C for the wear and tear of SEC play. We *should* have better "talent" (even though C Miller and J Smith were 4-stars themselves....) but we are likely going to have several freshman in our 2 deep... not good.

Where do you see those 8 wins coming? We play 9 bowl teams from 2013 plus Florida, and until we beat them that always looks like an L.

@ Oklahoma
@ Georgia
Alabama

are probable losses

Florida
@ Ole Miss
@ South Carolina

are more likely losses than wins, and

Utah State (opener)
Missouri

are games we could lose.

Arkansas State
Chattanooga
Kentucky
@ Vandy

are the only "locks" I'd take 6-6 and a bowl and be happy with it. But I hope to God we don't have to say that for another 30 years.

I think they only "sucked" because of our sky-high expectations. Lots of experience but 3 different systems doesn't help. Stats wise they played pretty good... the false starts were a killer though.

I'd give them a B on the year.

Hopefully our new group will have a real chip on their shoulders. They have the potential to be good, good resumes, second year in the system and a couple offseasons of S&C... but I'm not counting on them to be better than 2013. If they can play at the same level we'll be fortunate.

In LK's only season we had 2 walk ons playing and made a bowl game

In DD's first season we played 4 true freshmen on the line and made a bowl game

Those freshmen found out they could just check a box and skip the gym and did not progress like they should have - thus losing seasons ever since. The line next year may not have game experience, but neither did the lines of the last 2 teams to actually play in a bowl game. They will have more S&C time, more practice time, and hopefully that instruction will pay off

Our 2009 schedule wasn't as tough... UCLA at home instead of Oklahoma (and we still lost smdh), a 7-5 Auburn and a 6-6 Ole Miss, pre-Franklin Vandy and weaker Georgia and South Carolina teams (compared to the past 4 years).

All that said, you make a good point about the expectations in the program. CBJ surely holds players much more accountable and to a higher standard.

We might be pleasantly surprised with next year's o-line, but I'm not counting of them being better than 2013. If they could play to the same level we are in good shape because all other units should be improved except for kicking and punting.

I believe he meant the "next year...8 win team" part to mean in 2015. But, I may have misunderstood.

This is a good thing. We needed a change. I heard Wiseman is mean and KK got quite a bit of PT last year. Jackson took a RS after starting in 2012. GBO!!
