We are going to be so good by the Battle at Bristol! Those starters next season will have some serious experience for our run in 2016. Can't Wait!

The former coach has nothing to do with the fact that everyone ended their Tennessee tenure at the same time. If you think last year's 2nd string is bad, then that's a different story.

How does it "have nothing to do with" the coach that we didn't recruit adequately to prevent TOTAL turnover on both lines?

Some of you guys on this thread are idiots. You don't know how football works. If your defense gives up a bunch of points, you have to gamble and throw more. Our secondary and lb core was the worst I've seen in vol history. The running game is sacrificed in those scenarios. Some others have posted how our running game was better than it has been in several years, I don't have the stats but I thought they were impressive. We did not have a qb that could threaten downfield all of last year with a pass. We also had no depth at qb, so I am assuming that's why on the zone read you could count on your hands where the qb actually pulled the ball and run. Each game consists of different strategies, if your close in score you try to make one more play at the end than your opponent. If your losing badly, you call more riskier plays. When you call riskier plays, talent levels determine whether you look bad or good. We have been on the low end of talent for a couple years. Even vandy had more than us(which is sad)! Our running backs and oline were at a disadvantage all year. I'm assuming we will be more wide open with zone reads and qb throws downfield next year. That scenario will make our line look and backs look so much better. We will miss our line next year, but I think we will help our young line look so much better this year because the variables have changed in our favor. I'm optimistic that our young boys will grow and shock the world in some instances. Go Vols!!!

I have heard that the O-line consistently underachieved this year. Don't know if it was attitude or what. Maybe it is better that the decks have been cleared.

If they truly were underachievers then I would agree, but I think their performance had more to do with 1) an overall lack of speed and 2) unfamiliarity with a new offensive system (which needs speed at every skill position in order to succeed, by the way).

I would rather have NFL caliber O linemen that under performed than unproven, untested, lightly recruited linemen with "mean streaks" who "gets it".

Unless Jones and his staff are a lot better than what they showed the last season, this O line will be a huge problem next season. It won't matter who he has running the ball or throwing the ball if they don't have lanes to run through or time to throw it.

Our oline totally sucked last year. Richardson is a good guy and a VFL, but it's insane that he's a potential first rounder. He was our worst lineman.

Wrong on so many levels .
-
The passing game sucked ( QB or receivers ..or both ..you take your pick )
-
the LBs for the other team same over the run gaps making it their first read . The safeties attacked the 2nd level and edges with abandon. Defenses showed no fear of our passing game . Therefore , at the point of attack , there were routinely 7 or 8 defenders . It hardly matters how many guys were in the box pre-snap , when safeties can run 8 yards in roughly 2 seconds.
-
5 guys cannot block 8.
-
Football is a team sport , this Oline that has been criticized would look gold if someone could play pitch and catch and keep the D on their heals and out of the gaps
