No returners on line of scrimmage for 2014

I think the OL will be decent. I'm not worried about the interior.

The battle for the two tackle spots should be interesting, though.

Our 2009 schedule wasn't as tough... UCLA at home instead of Oklahoma (and we still lost smdh), a 7-5 Auburn and a 6-6 Ole Miss, pre-Franklin Vandy and weaker Georgia and South Carolina teams (compared to the past 4 years).

All that said, you make a good point about the expectations in the program. CBJ surely holds players much more accountable and to a higher standard.

We might be pleasantly surprised with next year's o-line, but I'm not counting of them being better than 2013. If they could play to the same level we are in good shape because all other units should be improved except for kicking and punting.

Florida was a helluva lot better in 2009. It still wasn't as tough.

So is there any proof whatsoever that the line we have coming in won't be better?

Hard to prove what is yet to come.

What we know is...

  • They will be less experienced.
  • They will have fewer off-seasons of strength and conditioning (although the value of S&C for our departing group has been called into question...).
  • They will have better continuity, most of them only knowing one system in college (save for Marcus Jackson).
  • They won't be as highly regarded (maybe this pushes them harder?)

Kerbyson and Crowder can play fellas. No dropoff there and maybe even an upgrade in a couple of areas. Playing with a little mean streak being one of them.

Where do you see those 8 wins coming? We play 9 bowl teams from 2013 plus Florida, and until we beat them that always looks like an L.

@ Oklahoma
@ Georgia
Alabama

are probable losses

Florida
@ Ole Miss
@ South Carolina

are more likely losses than wins, and

Utah State (opener)
Missouri

are games we could lose.

Arkansas State
Chattanooga
Kentucky
@ Vandy

are the only "locks" I'd take 6-6 and a bowl and be happy with it. But I hope to God we don't have to say that for another 30 years.

I don't think you read my post correctly! I said this year (2014) will be bad but next year (2015) better

On the OL, Jackson is basically a returning starter.
Blair should step in and be at worst solid.
Weisman and Crowder got solid playing time last year and have gotten good reviews from coaches.
The big question is at RT. If someone steps up, we should have a solid, maybe really good OL.

In LK's only season we had 2 walk ons playing and made a bowl game

In DD's first season we played 4 true freshmen on the line and made a bowl game

Those freshmen found out they could just check a box and skip the gym and did not progress like they should have - thus losing seasons ever since. The line next year may not have game experience, but neither did the lines of the last 2 teams to actually play in a bowl game. They will have more S&C time, more practice time, and hopefully that instruction will pay off

Quality post, sir. :good!:
Yes, this is a rebuilding yr fo the OL unit. However ...

Jackson has played in 24 games in his first 2 yrs, started in 5 of them. Crowder started at center in the SC game last year. Kerbyson is a 4th yr man and played in all 12 games last year. Blair is a JUCO and brought in expected to start. Sanders and Kendrick were pretty high recruits (Sanders 4-star) and both red-shirted to get ready for this yr. Weisman was thrown into the fire last yr, getting reps a true freshman. Coleman Thomas is a true freshman, but an EE, a big ole boy, and came to us with better than average technique -- I don't feel bad at all about him being in the 2-deep. Pair and Gilliam are RS Srs. and not small, can give some relief in the 2-deep as needed.

That's 10 names right there, with only 1 true freshman, and him an EE at that.

Barring terrible bad luck with injuries, we should be able to redshirt Raulerson and O.Brown, but if they should turn out to be better options than any of the rest, then the coaches will do what they have to do.

I feel much better about this line than the 09 or the '10 lines.

The former coach has nothing to do with the fact that everyone ended their Tennessee tenure at the same time. If you think last year's 2nd string is bad, then that's a different story.

You think losing that many players at once is bad? Wait until 2017. We will lose most of this recruiting class to graduation.

Just think this whole class, with the exception of the JUCO's and the players who may red shirt this season will all graduate in the spring of 2018. That is to include all of last season's red shirts, such as Ferguson, etc.

That will be a huge graduating class. We will likely lose a player to graduation at every position. O - line, D - line, q.b., receiver, T.E., db, kicker, long snapper, tailback, linebacker and punter......

Talk about attrition!!!!!

What does this have to do with what I said?

this season will show whether we have good coaches or not period. I expect a winning record including a win over florida at all costs and a bowl win. i don't think that is to much to ask.

Members of class of 2014 could be gone as early as 2016 if they are special. We won't have everyone leave in one year. That'd be too lucky.
