Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

Notre Dame's women's basketball program has crashed and burned they're 8-8 and look like they haven't recovered much from last season.

I think they’re in the stage we were last season. They will likely be better next season.

The pieces are there but they aren’t operating together right now. Their conditioning doesn’t look great either. Getting outplayed in a lot of 4th quarters.

though not the "same stage" cuz we were above .500...but if Kellie was 8-8 in her 1st season she would never hear the end of it lol

Are you surprised though? They were horrible last season and a lot of their woes are due to losing that senior class at one time. This has less to do with Niele and more to do with Muffett and recruiting/development/and player relationships the last few years of her tenure

The A&M roster shows Zaay Green is a junior, so that means the Sophmore year she was injured after 2 games counted as a year played. I would have thought she would have gotten a medical redshirt.
I may be wrong but I thought medical redshirts were only handed out once your eligibility is up. I thought that was when medical redshirts were granted. She could be granted an additional year but only once her current eligibility is up. Not sure about that though.

Ok, thanks. Kind of sad she is a junior and not playing very much.

They won 81-75.... they are solidly the second place team in the Big12 and i’ll say it again. Don’t look like a middle of the pack team at best.

There are some posters who used that loss to say we lost against a team that is going to struggle to get to the tourney in a weak conference. Well... there is some crow eating going on around these parts

I guess that I'm one of the people this is directed to.

I've changed my tune on Kellie's performance at Tennessee because of how she's got this team playing and some of their wins and the competitive game with UConn...not because WV ended up being better than expected in the pre-season. Doesn't change the fact that this was a bad loss. If they played today, I think Tennessee would manhandle them quite badly.

Tennessee is playing at a different level right now. If they played at the same level they did when the lost to WV...even if WV ended up being a top 20 team...I think they'd have more losses under their belt and don't think they'd be projected as a #4 seed in the current Bracketology.

it wasn’t directed at you because i honestly couldn’t remember who (and it was more than you) who said it. Trust me by now you know me i would have @ you if it was for you 😂

i think it’s a loss one fo a lesser team yes but that loss ignited something in the ladies and they still refer back to that and the GA losses to push themselves.

but again it wasn’t for you specifically. but honestly i’m glad you were wrong lol

She may go into the portal or she may h e a breakout junior year ala Burrell. Right now she’s averaging 22 minutes a game and 8.9 points per game. 🤷🏿‍♂️ Take from that what you will.

She will still be a junior next year because of covid so it want matter. This year doesn't count anyway.

So much for the Hoopgurlz ratings as they have three players that was ranked in the top ten starting and seven five stars on the team. Other than a three point shot I don't see a lot of athleticism out of Brunelle. Westbeld is in the same category and Miles is a nice player but I don't see a top ten ranking out of her either. Hoopgurlz says through their rankings that Notre Dame is loaded with talent and they are a decent team playing way below the way their players were ranked by Hoopgurlz the last three years.

Comparing on court performance you are right. But they will turn it around a bit faster. I don't think they are in the same stage because they won't have the severe recruiting hurdles KJH faced when she arrived. Neile was the Notre Dame chief recruiter when she left for the NBA. She had developed relationships with top 20 players in every class. She returned after just one year away and picked up right where she left off and signed 2 top 10 players. Also returning to the school she had pitched to the recruits gave her statements about the ND family credibility. KJH is having to climb the recruiting ladder and she is doing it quite well. Your 22 class will be the best in a while with more to come. KJH is about to jump into the top 20's in recruits and I suspect Justine, who I like, will end up being the 3rd most exciting recruit in the class.

watched the Iowa Indiana game on replay and Caylan Clark the Iowa freshman is averaging 26 pts plus 7 assists as a freshman. Very fun to watch both a shooter and a slasher. Also the Indiana post/forward sophomore has superior moves down low with left or right hand. If you have the opportunity watch Iown.

Niele inherited a bunch of top talent and Top 10, 5 star players. She’s done less with more compared to what Kellie inherited. I think we’re doing just fine.

The ACC is having a down season and ND is still .500. If they were playing in the SEC they may not have won a game yet.

Yes, Holmes has some moves. Reminds me a lot of Megan Gustafson. Undersized true post. Makes a very quick move to score which is hard to stop.

Interesting that when we played she was a total non-factor. Further proof Tamari is very difficult to score over. Holmes is their best offensive player and rebounder averaging 18/8. She had just 6/4 when we played earlier this season.

Tennessee definitely made the right hire with Kellie Harper instead of Niele Ivey.

Thank you for finally saying this, after watching yesterday's game, Ivey is trying to hard (imo) to have them play the Muffet way, she has to find her own way/style of play/coaching.

Kellie has taken some things she has learned from Pat but she isn't trying to coach or run the same sets Pat ran.

Based on the rankings of the recruits that ND has, they should not be struggling the way they are. I also suspect that there will likely be a few transfers out at the end of the year.

The biggest surprise to me is Georgia Tech being 11-4 and 9-3 in the ACC and 2nd in the current ACC standings behind 18-1 Louisville who is 11-1 in the ACC.
