Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2023-24

No offense to our Rutgers fans, but with an 84 SOS and a loss to Nebraska, really can't see them ranked ahead of GA and us.

If it's only about number of losses and "trending," does anyone really think some of these teams would be knocking off upper-level Top 10 opponents? I mean, they didn't do it when they had the chance.

You've convinced me. The SEC teams should be 1-5.

Maryland got Collins who was already somewhat experienced from her time at Tennessee and the player from Texas that transferred in who turned out to be an AA. She also had the number 2 player Reese coming in who has played the last few week didn't play earlier. A couple of the subs played as much or more than the starters. Seems like that tweet is trying to make it look like she didn't have anybody when she still had a bench of five stars and several transferring in.

Who is the player from Texas who is an AA? The only new transfers I can think of were Bibby and Benzan, and neither of them were expected to be elite players.

Talent also doesn't mean much. Look at Tennessee after their last NC. They had a whole roster of talented players, but were inexperienced and it cost them. Frese had some talent on the team, but she had no true post player and was incorporating 4 players that have never played a single game for Maryland into the starting lineup. She overhauled the offense to take advantage of their 3-pt shooting ability. Objectively, she did an amazing job with this rebuild.

The fact that Maryland is B10 champs and a top 10 team is a credit to Frese's ability to save this season.

Benzan has played like an AA and that is what I was saying. She didn't know she was going to get that kind of play from her but when you do it still counts and makes the coach look great. I think Frese is a good coach but she is not winning without talent and the tweet doesn't say that but makes gives the impression she had no players.

It's Katie Benzan...same player that Vic decided wasn't a fit for Texas. A 3-star player who was the 75th best guard according to Hoopgurlz. She's short, not very athletic and not that fast, but Frese put her in a position where she could excel. The makeup of the team and the offense that Brenda ran had as much to do with Benzan's performance as Katie's own innate skills.

Brenda said that she lost 5 starters and rebuilt a roster. The players who departed accounted for 72% of their points and 66% of their rebounds. She had only 3 players who returned this season (excluding any transfers who sat out). How is this NOT a rebuilding job. The fact that the rebuild didn't impact the team's success in a negative way is frankly pretty impressive.

I guess you can call it what you want to. Still a lot of five star players and highly ranked players on the roster. Most teams can usually take two or three five star players and a lot of players that produce beyond expectations and win. The point being not a talent barren team. A true rebuilding job would be taking a roster like Auburn and turning out a winning season.

check out the box score the top doesn’t match with the actual score
Ah, the updated that last play-by-play as well from when I posted. That sucks for BYU.

Edit: They deserved to lose. Why shoot the ball with 10 sec on the shot clock when you're ahead? They should have run it down until the end and left Gonzaga with 2 sec to win the game.
