Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I’d think Mulkey. Reese by extension, but others will follow. Kimmie loved the head games…all the head games. Kinda like Tony Vitello and last years BaseVols.
If you do that stuff, some people aren't going to like it. So players that embrace the antics shouldn't act all butt hurt and certainly shouldn't hide behind culture, ethnicity, etc. You do that stuff, just own it. Also know there will be situations where it will be thrown back in your face. Part of the head games.

Georgia’s also had some very interesting play calls out of timeouts. The officiating was terrible, but they had a number of chances to take control of the game in OT.

It's SEC women's basketball, the officiating is________

You can fill in the blanks for your own perspective.

My answer is "inept."
In SEC men's bball my answer is "not to be tru$ted."

Opinions on the Duke/FSU ball controversy?

I for one have a very hard time believing the players played an entire half with a men’s ball and nobody noticed. Especially the Duke players. For me, I think something is amiss.

The story I read said the Duke players noticed immediately and complained to the staff something was wrong with the ball. Eventually one of Duke's assistants went to the officials about it and it was then discovered that they were using the wrong ball.

The piece I read had Lawson saying they used the men's ball for almost an entire half.

It's bad enough that such a mixup would ever occur, even momentarily. But any ref qualified to call women's games should have noticed the difference immediately. I mean, there's a big difference that you feel when you pick up either ball. And if it was brought to their attention but was ignored, that's just an embarrassment to officiating. Middle school refs would know the difference.

Kind of a commentary on the sorry state of officiating in wcbb.

Colorado had another nice win on the road at Oregon. Top 25 NET team, likely UT best win # wise. Arizona won't be ranked much longer if they lose to up and coming @USC this weekend after losing to UCLA tonight. USC is 17 and 5 and may just be ranked with a win against Arizona Sunday. Only 805 for tonight's game out in LA. Pretty pathetic.

11 of 41 from inside the arc for UCLA, wonder how many were layups? Charisma Osborne(always plays UT well) went 1 of 7 and Kiki Rice went 4 of 19 and as a team shot 30%. Big win for Arizona.

The crazy part is that the ACC doesn't even deny it happened. They just state they have no evidence and FSU has remained silent. The balls were switched at the half. Why would the ref do that if there wasn't a problem? The good news is that the ball will now be checked by players before the game, so it doesn't happen again.

Unfortunately Arizona's win bumped them up to #27 in the NET, dropping Ole Miss to #31, meaning we're back to 3 Q1 NET wins instead of 4. Luckily two of the next three games (Miss. St. and Arkansas) present opportunities to get more Q1 wins on the road.

We have a couple of Q1 wins that could bounce back and forth hopefully at the end of the season they will be Q1. We are almost assured that all our Q1 losses won't become Q2 losses as most of those teams are fairly solid in the top 30. The two suspect ones would be UCLA and Gonzaga.

Luckily UCLA and Gonzaga were on a neutral court, so they only need to stay in the top 50 to remain Q1, instead of Q2, losses.

SEC Women's Basketball Scoreboard | ESPN

The early game Sunday SC at UConn will get all the attention. LSU has a rather easy win it appears. We are playing Monday at Miss St. hopefully Rickea has her best game ever.
12:00 Noon is too early for a big Sunday audience, they should have scheduled 3 or a night game imo, in spite of NFL.

The LSU Freshman star Flau'jae did well on America's Got Talent when she was 14 and again last year. She talks a bit about her background before doing her rap. She is quite inspiring. Perhaps the antidote for Reese.

That was a way cool video, ty for that link…..she is impressive

Massive game brewing this week…..

No. 6 Iowa has now won seven consecutive games and is 18-4 overall and 10-1 in the Big Ten, just behind the 11-1 Indiana Hoosiers, who have won nine in a row. The Hawkeyes travel to face the Penn State Lady Lions on Sunday, then have the first of two meetings against No. 4 Indiana on Feb. 9 in Bloomington, Indiana. The Hawkeyes and Hoosiers will meet in Iowa City in the regular-season finale Feb. 26 on ESPN2.
