Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Kim is doing great also, she looks fine for her age. Man, y’all getting all over people for their looks as they age….I guarantee she still has gas in the tank, she is a stick of 🧨 dynamite and I love it for WBB that she is engaged still. She looks just fine for her age btw.
What up? Are most of the posters here models or super young looking for their respective ages? Geeze Louise. If looks are that important to the job than yeah, KJH would be top 5 in WBB, not that Geno or Kim have issues with looks or aging. They don’t. KJH has a different look than just 5 years ago also tbh, lot of stress in the job. Wait until she is in her 60’s and see if you still feel the same about Kim who stays in great shape and looks just fine for her age to my eyes.

watch her wink twice at the 3:07 mark, she knew what she was doing….almost too 😎 cool. Y’all would love her to death if she was coaching UT, she is an amazing coach and super fun to watch as she coaches.

Spot on Lucy. One thing we all know is it takes some big personalities to elevate the sport of WBB and get the attention it deserves, people like Kim and Dawn are polarizing but they shine light on the sport. If we had ten more Kim’s and Dawns in this sport think of the attention it would draw. Now think about things if everyone was just plain dull or average…..we need some more outsized personalities And we all want WBB to take a bigger spotlight. A little Spice in the pot can be a good thing. Peace lady.
I think ten more Dawns and Kim’s we’d have wrestlin’!
Peace back to you!

I think some of Auriemma's admirers/defenders are ignoring some of his worst behavior that goes beyond the usual examples given that are usually waved off as "brash, Philly-background, tv villain, sarcastic but fun-loving" style that is actually good for women's basketball for drawing attention. I had a longer post addressing examples in this category that make him a figure loved by his fans but loathed by his detractors. A lot of those "coaching" attributes/transgressions are similar in overall impact to antics done by other coaches.

But then there are the darker examples that border upon anti-social and egomaniacal...if not abusive and borderline misogynistic. Publicly insulting a young (female) reporting for asking a question that "pissed him off." Publicly insulting a player for transferring. Bragging that he "controls the local media" by "cutting out" those who offend him or who write unfavorable things about the program. Maybe the most notorious example was the accusation made by WNBA security chief who said that he sexually assaulted her at a tournament in Russia and then had her removed from her duties after she rebuffed his advances. It was classic "he said, she said," but it was also before the Me, Too movement. Her account didn't sound at all far-fetched, either...sounded like the classic drunken lout hits on an unwilling female, gets handsy and presses her up against a wall or door, and tries to kiss her. I believe the case was dismissed not on merit but on tge technicality that the court didn't have jurisdiction. At any rate, it's a charge you don't hear levied against too many coaches of females.

Aueiemma supporters and lovers of his teams' on-court accomplishments can point to generous things he has done and how he has helped others in some instances. And how some of his players love him, etc. But that doesn't erase his abusive behavior, some of which is a matter of record.

I developed a strong distaste for him when he was just beginning to make waves in WCBB and CBS did a 60 Minutes profile of him. His casual, blasphemous on-camera swearing. (not in an angry outburst) but just what appeared to be common, everyday language for him during practices made me think that I'd never want my daughter around that every day for years. To me, it showed not only a lack of character but also an incredible disrepect for his players. If anyone thinks that's silly to think that a coach should refrain from doing things that deeply offend others in his "employ," then imagine if the same coach casually used any racist terminology around his players.

Agree the team was overrated. That’s going to get corrected soon. The real problem is that the talent on the roster is overrated. Barnes just hasn’t recruited well enough to take the next step. Now teams like bama, Arkansas are going to pass us by.

I guess on a message board that comes off as petty and didn't mean it to be. I wanted Kim at UT(knowing that was a pipe dream)and am a huge fan of hers. I think she's awesome, just looks haggard sometimes. Could be shots of her without makeup is why I have thought that.

I wish North Carolina would keep sitting Teonni and give her a reason to want to transfer. I think Tennessee would be a good fit for her:)

I agree. I actually wonder if big sis might go play with her though. When we offered that 6’4” 2023 player the other day it made me think maybe she is not returning. I could see her going to play for a season with her sister at UNC closer to home.

Would much prefer a transfer the other direction but we shall see.

I wouldn't think that offer would worry TK if she wants to come back. That's probably not a player that will start right away anyway. TK and KJH seem extremely attached, moreso I would think than lil sis and her situation at UNC. I'd be surprised to see TK play anywhere else. If health allows, I think she returns here next season and boy do we need that to happen. Having Jill at 4 would help TK so much in the post.

Wildcard of course is the home factor, esp after a health scare. We'll see.

I think LSU and South Carolina will break this season’s viewership record! It’s literally all I’m seeing people talking about, more so than the Super Bowl!
Its two hall of fame coaches with two POY candidates, undefeated records are on the line. I'm excited to see how it turns out.

I think SC is just on a completely different level than LSU (who certainly is a good team). I don't think they have the fire power top to bottom to pull it off. SC is way too deep, talented, big and experienced. SC has a giant core that has played with each other for 3 to 4 years. LSU is built on transfers and freshmen who never played with each other before. They are more prone to sporadic and choppy periods of play. The difference in the benches is the most significant difference between teams. To be fair though, I don't know a program in the country who has this level of talent and depth as SC.

If LSU wants to be competitive, they 100% need big games from Morris and Reese to stay in the ballpark. The supporting cast also must step up their game, in particular Ladazhia and Flaujae. I think SC wins by 10+. Personally unless SC just has a bad shooting night, I see them pretty untouchable at home for anyone at this point. But never underestimate the power of Kim Mulkey and what she can do to get a team to rise to the occasion on big moments on the big stage.

Why in the world would she want to come back? Unless Kellie gets extremely lucky in the portal, she would be returning to an underwhelming, largely mid-major caliber roster that's in a clear rebuild. Why try to carry a mediocre team when the situation at UNC is exponentially better for so many reasons- coaching, talent, sister, home, etc.

I would say going to UNC, or being done with college altogether and going to the WNBA to get paid, are the two far more likely options for Tamari than returning to Tennessee...

Tamari Loves it at Tennessee with the Leadership programs she been involved in and the overall culture. I actually think they should apply for a medical waiver for this year for her and give her a chance at playing two more years and getting two more years of education. A medical diagnosis like she received can take away that feeling of invincible really quickly and she may realize the more free education she gets the better chance at a great life should basketball not work out over the long term. Tamari is a smart kid and she has a great mom who is looking out for her best interest. I don't know if she played too many games this season, but it is pretty close.

This. I've heard her say this more than once. She, Horston, and KJH are very, very close. I don't think TK wants her career here to end the way she went out this fall.

Think she's WNBA ready? I don't but others know more about the league than I do.

If TK came back next year then went to the WNBA in the first round in '24, that would give KJH 4 first rounders in 3 years. At least that's something LOL.

Great post. I can so see her getting a masters (or more) before she leaves UT. She will make us proud for a long time.

Unfortunately, as Tamari is well aware, Horston ain't walkin through that door next season. Kellie will though... probably.

The draft class of 24 looks pretty loaded, presumably including Clark, Bueckers, Brink, maybe Reese. I doubt she would be 1st rounder this year or next. Unless she took a huge step forward next season, she might actually go higher this year. Again, if she did want to come back another season to try to improve her stock, why come back to Tennessee to face double/triple teams every night?
