Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Creighton is a dangerous team that wins by making 3 pointers, something that all five players can do. UConn held them to 6-30. Ten years ago, the Big East was the best women's conference in the country until the ACC raided the league based on football. On the mens side, it is still one of the best. But of course, your knowledge doesn't expand beyond the SEC. You do not want to play them in the tournament.
Sorry but the Big East is barely scrimmage for UConn this season, and this is the worst UConn team they’ve had in probably 20 years. What does it say about the competitiveness of the league if the #2 team is still losing to them by an average of 25 points when they lose to pretty much every ranked team they play by double digits once they step OOC. The Big East is NOT a competitive league.

Interesting view of WBB final champions from all time and where they were ranked preseason as well as at the end. It doesn’t often happen a team not ranked in the final top 5 wins it all, has happened 5-6 times.
Looks like ‘97 Tennessee (#10) and ‘23 LSU (#9) were the biggest outliers. Even more amazing that Tennessee with 10 losses was still ranked #10!

Yeah, last season was one of the anomalies with LSU winning. It’s interesting to see how often a team drops by year end from their preseason ranking than rebounds to win it all. That 97 UT team started at 4, finished 10th and then won it all, the biggest rebound I can see on that chart. And only 3 times has a team started preseason out of the top 10 and won it all.

The problem with the Big East on the women's side is that they are Catholic universities with no football programs, so the money goes into mens basketball. Attendance figures are really bad, except for UConn and maybe Villanova. They should have been in the ACC years ago when all this upheaval started, but BC voted against their membership based on litigation between the two schools. Well, long story, but UConn would love to play in a better conference, but womens basketball does not carry much weight compared to the men. All we can do is play who we have to, and bulk up the OOC games to bolster our resume for March. They do what they can, and being in a ****** conference isn't their fault, and should not reflect on who they are as a program.

No one is disputing that UConn is still an elite team despite playing in a bad conference. But you will never convince anyone that Creighton or other members of the current BEast are either consistently good teams or consistent competition for UConn as a league rival. So trying to play up Creighton as a worthy rival to UConn will fall on deaf ears if even you can't convince yourself it's true.

Sheryl Swoopes spoke to Caitlin Clark after viral comments, says she 'made a mistake'

"I won’t share what she said, I’ll leave that to her if she wants to share. But I will say, what I said to her was, 'I made a mistake in saying it was your fifth year when it is your fourth."

Ummm...ok?

Swoopes was way outta line for that. Way outta line. If you have a public persona you need to be very cautious about your words.

Not sure why there is a big push to diminish Clark’s accomplishment. Don’t remember this happening when Plum broke the record.

Because no one was talking about Plum revolutionizing the league once she joins. These oldies (retired and current players) are feeling threatened and acting like fools as a result. Way to grow the game, ladies!

Each and everyone one of them should look at former players like Lisa Leslie, Tamika Catchings, Rebecca Lobo, etc. to see the proper way to represent the league as an elder statesman.

Like I just posted in the other thread it's ridiculous Marquette is going to make the tournament finishing 5th in the BE. 0 and 6 vs the other 4 in front of them. Swept by Villanova? 2 beat downdowns by UCONN. And Charlie has them as an 8 seed. I wish someone better than him would do the women's bracketology. UT should not be a 10 seed while Marquettee is an 8.
I do think Creighton is worthy to make the tourney but that's it, just them and UCONN this season.

South Carolina recruit Joyce Edwards helps Gamecocks make push for top-ranked Sarah Strong

Is there ever a point where the rich are getting too rich? Kitts, Watkins, Feagin, Edwards and now maybe Strong at the high post? I know you can't exactly say no to a post player that can hit 7-10 threes while simultaneously grabbing 17 rebounds, but geez!

If they sign her, I look forward to the ongoing discussion of "parity" in the women's basketball landscape.

LSU has been recruiting her very hard recently (almost certainly has a $ offer that would be hard for anyone to match), its their last chance for a recruit in this class. They would be able to offer her a starting/featured role imo. She has been considered a lean to Uconn for a long while now, but who knows, I would bet she stays in the southeast. NCSU is likely still in the running as well. She does have a lot of connections to the SC program however, so I feel confident SC will be in it until the end. It is often written that Strong prefers to play a wing role as opposed to a post role, and she would definately be in the mix to start at the 3 or 4 spot for most schools.

It was actually semi-competitive last year when UConn had so many players out. We even lost some games! 😂

It's still a step up from the absolutely pitiful AAC that we were languishing in for 7 years. But let's be real, there is not a single UConn fan who doesn't wish we were in a P5 conference. The BE does a lot for MBB. It does nothing at all for WBB.

Why is Angel Reese listed as a Junior (on both LSU site and ESPN)? This is her fourth full year of playing WBB. I get that she has a Covid year option, but she is a senior for basketball is she not?
