Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I watched two teams today, both with losing records and lacking defense. However, their rosters, particularly Stanford almost every player: with MacDonalds, USA-18, and otherwise top players from HS ranks, the other is Virginia, not as many elite HS rated but many more than on the LV roster. always curious when a group of players become a team coached well and bought in, and for whatever reason it doesn't happen.

Stanford has spiraled down more quickly than I can remember that happening to any program, in any sport, before. They just had too much huge change to deal with this year in losing their iconic, perennially successful coach to retirement, to losing key players from last season, to losing their longtime conference and now having to regularly get on planes for looooong flights to the opposite coast for ACC games. I hate it for them, but I don't know what the solution would be. They're in a bad situation right now all around.

I'll make a judgement call next year after they get their influx of McDs AAs.

Yeah, hopefully they'll bounce back next season. But the influx of amazing recruits won't shorten those brutal flights.

Yeah I don’t think it’s happening. Their defense in particular has disappeared. Tara was like Gary Blair. She was her teams. Gary did more with less because he was just that much of a basketball genius. Stanford has the players but the boss is gone.

Big game tomorrow night btw KY and Ole Miss @ 7. KY can take a big step towad 4th place with a win there, even tho they still have to play So Car, LSU, and Texas.
Probably the biggest game as I don't see them winning any of the three against SC, LSU, and Texas. If we could win all our games up to then it sets up a battle for fourth place when we play them. Cause Bama and Ole Miss still play, We play both of them, Ole Miss has to play SC. We'd have the tiebreaker over all of them.

The games this weekend prove there are no clear-cut favorite among the schools. The neutral sites that will be used in the tournament are somewhat indicative of what's to come because teams are winning on their home courts. If you need the home court to win, then chances are you are not going to the final four. That's just my observations. Neutral sites are a different beast altogether.

As we discussed in the other thread, since we have 6 losses and KY only 1, we need them to lose to the big 3, us, plus one more to tie us, and we have the tiebreak if we beat them. KY's game at OM tonight is the best chance left for them to pick up that we one extra loss we need them to get in order to have a chance at 4th. Probably not going to happen to them against GA or Mizz.

Vandy and OK are still a prrblem too.

Chances of Auburn beating Oklahoma tonight not very good, but hope is alive. Vandy has to many tough games left I can see them going to seven maybe 8. Ole Miss has to beat Kentucky tonight or talking about it will be over.

Right. KY wins tonight it's just a jumble for 5-8 depending on alot of things happening.

Neutral site? 🤣🤣🤣

“The SEC Women's Basketball Tournament returns to Greenville, S.C, March 5-9. This is the eighth trip to Greenville for the tournament. The city previously hosted the event in 2005, 2017, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2023 and 2024.”

Bon Secours

Ain't nothin' much neutral about Greenville, S.C., for the Gamecocks. There'll probably be about 13,000 garnet-and-black-wearing South Carolina fans in there, and the other two grand of everyone else's fans.

It's fun the first few days before all the SC fans get there. Easy to park, sit wherever you want, 4 games a day. All changes when the cocks show up.
