Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Don't matter a lot if Kentucky beats Missouri it was always lose to LSU and Sc then we beat them. Even if they lose to Missouri we would still need them to lose to us, LSU, and Sc.
I believe they will lose all 3 and we'll get 5th. Not much diff, except bragging rights, btw 5th and 6th tho. Still would be nice to sweep Ole Miss, Bama and KY.

Take a miracle for OK not to take 4th.

Fifth gives you a game against 12-13 winner I think and then we'd have our rematch with Oklahoma. Hope we can get fifth and get the chance at them again.

Yes, it looks like OU is the heavy favorite to get the 4 seed. I do think playing for the 5 seed is still important, as this would put us on the path to play OU in our third round rather than the other top teams. Given that we will have to play an extra game, I would much prefer to play OU in the SEC tournament than the other top 3 seeds due to OU being the least athletic of the 4 and thus less able to exploit our fatigue of playing an extra game. I also feel that the way we lost to OU in the regular season will be a source of motivation for the LVs. I really feel like we have come such a long way since that game with OU that we might snag a victory against them despite the extra game. Otherwise, I think right now we are playing for momentum, keeping a high enough NCAA seeding to host, and possibly enhancing our NCAA seeding if teams like OSU and Duke keep losing. This is not impossible given our improved play.

A lot to be determined as the only way we get fourth or even fifth is to keep winning. Oklahoma needs to lose two and that doesn't seem likely. We lose another regular season game probably looking like seventh. We win them all can see fifth as a 95 percent certainty. The only teams that could knock us out of fifth if we win out are Ole Miss and Alabama and they have to win out to do it. They have a tough stretch and don't see them being able to do it. Kentucky does have to lose to LSU at home and SC at their place. If that happens then it is up to us to win there to pass them. Vandy now with eight losses will be playing day one of the SEC unless we collapse and lose two of the next three even then I see them losing another game as of the ones they have left.

I agree with your projections. I might lower the odds a bit because I do think Kentucky has a chance at home against LSU, though clearly they will be favored. LSU just hasn't been as dominant this year. Even in home games against unranked SEC opponents, they tend to just have a one-digit leads until the waning moments. If it wasn't for Gilbert's apparently revenge motive against the LVs, we would have likely won one and possibly both games against them. I also worry that if UK loses to LSU, we might be the game that will make or break Kentucky season, so they will be very motivated. It will be fun to see how they match up.

I agree they could win that game versus LSU which if they do puts them right there for the four position and moves us to sixth even if we win out. They have the tiebreaker over Oklahoma.
