Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

What is the guarantee that Mulkey will win championships at LSU?
I don't think there is one at all. She's certainly been a successful coach and she's got some great players to start with, but absolutely she could go all Gail G. And that will be another interesting part to the story. LSU gambled big money for sure, interesting to see how it plays out.

So you're trying to get members banned that have different opinions about the state of the Lady Vol's program.

No a person who comes on here only to spread negativity, and is a fan of another team...that is the definition of a troll...and I may be the only one saying it right NOW, but I am not alone.

I have never minded different opinions, but consistent downing of our program and our coach is trolling

You seem confused. I didn't write the article, I just shared it. My response was to your whining about it...

You shared the article because you have an agenda. I'm not confused about that. And that's ok, you can have whatever agenda you want. But IMO, your agenda has no practical point. Harper's future will be determined by her skills as a head coach, regardless of your agenda.

his agenda affects the readers of this forum, which include UT fans, recruits, players, player's families and staff...this is not a backyard gossip fence and he knows it.

Disagree. This is EXACTLY a backyard gossip fence, a watercooler at work, a walk back to car after the game talking about what we just watched. Nothing more, nothing less. Which is exactly why its no place for recruits, players, etc.

Some desperately insist on making it more, but its just not, doesn't need to be.

Also, everyone who's ever typed a keystroke on any fan forum has an agenda.

IMO it mischaracterizes the column to call it whining or crying over spilled milk. I find it an interesting comparison of how two major programs approached hiring their next WBB coach. Did one go cheap? Was one constrained by clinging to its past glories? Why was one willing to make an unprecedented investment and will it pay off?

I think you can do both things: accept and support Harper as the coach who got hired and be interested in the process that made that happen. Maybe we could even learn something that would help the next time around.

"Mulkey’s hire showed that LSU is serious about becoming the SEC’s preeminent women’s basketball program and that it expects to return to the Final Four, a destination it hasn’t reached since five straight appearances from 2004-08. Tennessee’s hire of Harper showed that it’s serious about paying homage to its past."

The writer of the article clearly has an anti-Fulmer and an anti-Harper agenda. According to the author, Fulmer was conned into acquiescing to some bossy blue hairs (read: he was indifferent and malleable because he didn't care), and that made him hire someone only out of loyalty to them and the past, and because he listened to them and didn't hire an established elite coach, he didn't care about winning championships. All conjecture and a rehash of an incessant dead horse flogging. I agree with your last paragraph, but not your first sentence, but I respect your opinion.

Whoa Nelly. No one said they're not needed or wanted. Nor entitled to an opinion. I'm just saying they maintain strict adherence to what they think is Pat orthodoxy of only female coaches and only from the family tree and they let that be known forcefully to Fulmer, as is their perfect right.

Other fans, who've also been around awhile, feel clinging so tightly to past glory is part of the reason the program is having such a hard time moving forward. Another legit opinion.

"Whining on a fan board" Really? Hello pot . . .
I hope and believe I am always supportive of the team and staff. If you consider pointing out trolls and their friends whining so be it.

Anti-Fulmer (and in effect the UTAD)? Possibly, in that they cared, just not enough under the circumstances at the time to go big and bold. The football mess, tight money due to the football mess, lack of interest from elite coaches, and pressure to stay in the family from old school donors just made a hill they didn't care enough to die on.

Anti-Harper? IMO that's an interesting debate. To some degree, she was a compromise candidate, attractive because of/in spite of a coaching resume that did not command elite status nor salary. Plus her hire kept the All in the Female Pat Family crowd at bay, which was another politically/culturally charged hill they weren't about to die on.

Does that mean KJH can't get the job done and is not worthy of fan support? Absolutely not. It just makes her an underdog with a very steep hill to climb, especially in recruiting. Which will make it all the more awesome if she gets it done, and all the more understandable if she doesn't. IMO she's already made some encouraging progress against long odds which I hope like hell will continue.

Outstanding piece on the blue hairs railroading Fulmer with the Harper hire, and how utterly ridiculous that "search" looks two years later in light of LSU hiring Mulkey...

Outline - Read & annotate without distractions

"Blue hair" is such a derogatory term for an elderly person. It's too bad parents didn't teach some to have respect for their elders. Would you call your grandmother that? Shameful that everyone who gets in the way of some of the more vocal gets labeled with a derogatory term meant to hurt or inflame. The elderly fan base that has supported and donated to the program deserves better.

I read the article. My take, as an outsider, is that it is historical and has no bearing on current status of the Lady Vols. To debate the hire now is to beat the dead horse.

Kellie is the Coach. When she was hired I delineated my thoughts on what her priorities should be.

Number One was to remove the negativity (perceived and otherwise) surrounding the team and restore the Lady Vol family. In that, based upon twitter feeds, specifically Rennia, she is an unqualified success.

Number two was to establish relationships with top level players. This appears to be happening as each of her recruiting classes is rated higher than the prior class. UT is being mentioned by top level players and getting into the finalists discussions.

Number Three was there is no elevator to the top. You have to take the stairs. There is no magic switch that Kellie can flip and suddenly be competing for final fours. It's a process and a lot of hard work.

Those who have criticized Kellie from the beginning are presumptuous at best and foolish at worst. Let her do the job she was hired to do. Give her the time necessary to actually fail.

UCLA has 16 players on their roster are some of the players content on not getting any minutes????
A lot of teams with 14 to 16 next season. I figured out that some of our players are ok with not getting minutes because they didn't get many last season and only two players graduated. I think they are content just being Lady Vols because no way some of these players minutes are gong to change.
