Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Oregon was so desperate the signed a very average player from Georgia State

Something going on there with that coach just like Syracuse when you have that many players getting out of your program. I have to say that the Syracuse guy has done a decent job of replacing some of his transfers and has an excellent recruiting class coming in.

The difference is that Syracuse lost their best players. Oregon is keeping their core players, but losing those that were not likely to become starters due to better players ahead of them in the rotation.

Clearly.

Speaking of agendas...

Yes, I have an agenda: To vocally support my alma mater, including her sports programs, especially when that support is deserved and warranted. And that includes defending her against malicious or irrational/wrongful attacks. I don't know what's in your heart, so I won't accuse you of maliciousness, but in my opinion, your constant attacks against Kellie Harper are - at least in part - irrational and wrongful.

How rational is it to assert that a coach in her second year of trying to rebuild a program she found on the decline should be fired for missing out on one important recruit? How rational is it to insist that the hiring of a coach who took a mid-major to a sweet sixteen is evidence that the administration that hired her doesn't care about future championships? How rational is it to say on the one hand that her hiring shows that the administrator who hired her doesn't care about championships, but on the other hand that you believe the same administrator wanted to hire an elite coach, but was thwarted by a desire to placate some "blue hairs"?

Look, Darth, none of this is personal. I'm just defending what I think deserves defending.

I don't think there is one at all. She's certainly been a successful coach and she's got some great players to start with, but absolutely she could go all Gail G. And that will be another interesting part to the story. LSU gambled big money for sure, interesting to see how it plays out.

How it plays out? Simple, within a year LSU will be competitive and within 2-3 years they will be vying for championships. That’s how Mulkey rolls, that’s how she has always rolled. Three NC’s wasn’t enough info for you?

You can put the best lumber in the world on your construction site, but if you don't have a master carpenter, you probably won't have the best house in the neighborhood.

And you can have all the greatest plans and designs, but if you are building with inferior products you will never have the best house in any neighborhood.

...and Texas thought that when they hired 'sure-fired' winner Gail Goestenkoers.

Those who have criticized Kellie from the beginning are presumptuous at best and foolish at worst. Let her do the job she was hired to do. Give her the time necessary to actually fail.
Do you mean to say KJH cannot be criticized? Also, once again, you give our backyard gossip fence far too much credit. We have zero power to "let" her do her job or not, nor to "give her time" or not. She will be doing both things no matter what we say.

If you mean she shouldn't be criticized until a certain amount of time somehow deemed proper has passed, you don't understand the nature of the backyard gossip fence. Fortunately others can disregard that convro till they think its warranted. Plenty of other neighbors chatting farther down the fence line.

I liked the rest of your post.

To guarantee more at LSU? No. Of course its likely she'll elevate LSU, she sure has all the tools. But I don't think there are many guarantees at all in the current topsy turvy WBB environment and a coach in her final act being able to recreate the magic is not a sure thing IMO.

Constructive criticism of Harper is appropriate. It's part of the job for a coach. Destructive criticism is not appropriate. My 2 cents.

My post was explicit in focusing on those who decided to criticize Kellie because the did not agree with her selection. All public figures put themselves into a position to be criticized. Where criticism is warranted, let it be reasonable and expound upon it.

YES!

A lot of teams with 14 to 16 next season. I figured out that some of our players are ok with not getting minutes because they didn't get many last season and only two players graduated. I think they are content just being Lady Vols because no way some of these players minutes are gong to change.

It is surprising we did not have transfers. Unless we fail at recruiting, I’d expect changes after next year. With Rae gone, we have to have a ball in hand bucket getter or two either via recruiting or transfer recruiting. We have to have another big plus Pissott.

It will be interesting who steps up this season to go with Rae.
