Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I’ve never understood the “point of emphasis” BS. Why!? Just have a standard protocol and roll with it. Call the games fairly. Call excessive contact and let the women play. I’ve seen rec leagues self officiate better than some women’s college basketball games.

YES. I remember a few years ago their "point of emphasis" was to start calling tighter fouls on the ball handler driving to the basket, to cut down on the hand checking and little hip shivs and body bumps on the player dribbling the ball down the court. Don't know if it even lasted a whole season, but it didn't last more than one. And it's almost forgotten about now. Just stick to enforcing the rules equitably, and the kids will learn the most from that. They'll have no other choice but to......

They find good players, uncanny. Imagine if they ever found a post that could run the floor both ways
It sounds like Dauda will suit up this season. Her and Wolfenbarger will be a handful. Those two plus Barnum will be a solid 3 player post rotation, with a couple more big bodies available on the bench in case of emergency.

The guard rotation of Daniels, Ramirez, Goforth, Eaton and Spencer is also damn solid.

They are gonna knock some teams off this year.

What could have been Massengale would be great playing along with Key and if Green was here and Westbrook came back like she did with the Univ of Conn Artists we would be a Final Four Team
Only Westbrook wouldn't have changed her playing style at TN. It's all about the coaching.

Fast forward 4-5 years…everything will look different. Promise.
Yeah. That's my concern. When Vandy is challenging for Conference and national championships. Shea has an edge over most new head coaches in that she has been the lead recruiter for the highest ranking 23, 24 , and 25 recruits. She already has relationships with these players and she is a great recruiter. Now she's selling top academics, top facilities, and Nashville. We'll get an idea when the 23's start falling. If she can get a top 20-25 point guard early in the process it will be 'Katie bar the door'. Perhaps Saylor comes. She and Shea were close at UConn and Shea leaving might have been a part of the reason Saylor left.

Most Top 50 recruits won’t meet Vandy admission standards. Hard facts and why it has consistently been a tough place recruit top athletic talent.

Yes Vandy does have that drawback. But Stamford has been working that model pretty good. I expect Shea to grab some of the eastern and mid-west Stamford candidates. I know several of the UConn players starting with Rebecca Lobo and through the years have also had Stamford offers. So the players are out there.

That’s kinda assuming the top 50 are also not academically proficient. Do the lower rated players do better academically?

Ranked 14th among national universities for the 2nd year in a row.
Since you aren’t around here you miss the local humor. Vanderbilt fans (there are 127 of them) like to call Vandy the Harvard of the South. You will note Harvard does not call itself the Vanderbilt of the North. So, you can probably just shush now.

Not saying she should have been hired, but Ralph should have been given more consideration for this job than she was (which was evidently zero). More AD malpractice from Fulmer. Ralph building Vandy into a contender before Kellie's Lady Vols would be the most Tennessee thing that could happen. And if Ralph were to somehow beat Kellie this year...

???
That would have been well accepted.
