Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Prob hyper-extended the knee a little, didn’t look like a major injury, hopefully a few weeks at most. The game needs her, she is responsible for a lot of light being directed on the sport. Her game, and her shot, are beautiful to watch.

I’m like everyone else who follows WCBB, , if she is on TV I am watching.
I was really excited to see her and Fudd this season together. Hopefully they’re both well and at 100% soon.

Who are the two ladies next to Geno? This pic is right before Paige stumbled and just collapsed on the floor hope she is doing well and it’s not anything serious1638795547653.png

I would be more excited to seeing them going at each other than to be part of a collection of superstars.

Never want to see any athlete injured, and star players and matchups are good for the game. I do think that any coach, regardless of how many championships he/she has, who risks injury to his players by leaving them in the game with an 18-point lead in the waning seconds (and a bench full of All-Americans in reserve) doesn't have the best interests of his/her player at heart.

Or maybe that coach is just too "stubborn" for his own good.

From what Auriemma said last night it sounds like Bueckers doesn't want to be taken out so he lets her play. So if that is the case, then Buecker's own selfishness with minutes had her in the game at that point. Maybe if she were more willing to allow an opportunity to play a minute or two to someone who works hard in practice every day but rarely get a chance to play ...

Anyway, Auriemma also said he "doesn't like how his team looks without Paige on the floor."

Buekers had literally played every second of the game up to the time she was injured with under a minute left. You would think the uconn coach would take every chance he gets to rest his super star this early in the season and develop some depth off his bench. You would think. Bueckers has played 38 or more minutes in all but two of UConn’s games this season, and she was on pace to record her second 40-minute game had she not gotten injured.

And it's not like her minutes are a breeze in the park, she is literally playing the PG and SG duties simultaneously while fighting off the opposition's best defenders and having to guard her opponents' best backcourt player.

I know if I were one of those players who never got to play and the star player never considered that I might want to play a minute or two and always chooses to play the entire game herself even in blowouts, it would hurt my feelings something awful. I admit I'm a super sensitive person, but I don't think I'm out of line to suggest Bueckers might be a tad inconsiderate of her end-of-the-bench teammates. They work hard in practice, too, I'm sure.

Amen, I love it when nonstarters get minutes and the starters are absolutely cheering them on with everything they have. Jordy comes to mind. Up, cheering, waving towels. That’s a good teammate!

How does he know how they would look during a game if she never comes out?

As for her "not wanting to come out, so he lets her play," I was under the mistaken impression that the head coach determines who is on the court. Apparently, a record number of titles doesn't earn a guy much respect from players these days.

This will make a great quote if, Heaven forbid, a premier player does ever suffer a serious injury under such circumstances.

"Well, I really wanted to take her out and rest her and give our bench some experience, but she didn't want to come out. I mean, what could I do? She's stubborn as s**t."

One thing I appreciate about Dawn Staley is the fact that she'll play the reserves as soon as the situation allows. Sometimes to a fault and that's when the starters have to return in order to right the ship. I'm sure you all have seen how the bench goes wild when Thompson drains a 3. There's a lot of love for each other on this team.

This may also allow others time to shine that deserve a little spot light. One of the biggest travesties was Caitlin Clarke not getting more shine last year .
Named The Athletic, WBCA, and USBWA Tamika Catchings Co-Freshman of the Year

Earned first team All-America honors from The Athletic, WBCA, and USBWA, and earned second-team honors from Associated Press

The only thing she didn’t win was POY.

He is talking about spot light as he explicitly stated. As far as the national media was concerned in 2020 it was all PB , and then everyone else.

That's child abuse. I thought UConn was loaded and didn't have to do this kind of thing? WTH?

It wasn't necessary but I couldn't resist as you obviously missed or disregarded the nature of his post.
Nah.....I just disagree. All those 1st team AA's are plenty of attention. I heard her name for a lot of the season with all her great games.

Seemed like just a way to say that Bueckers got too much attention.

It was on purpose 😃 Some posters don't bring anything to our board and want to say they bring "facts" but don't bring all the facts. Plus they also never say anything about "their" team. Just want to point out things about ours🥴😂

I got baited before but not now. Glad that someone else called it😂

UConn has a 10 player roster against lesser teams or lowly ranked like ND, altho' ND still a special rival even w/o Muffett. 2 injuries to Fudd and Griffin meant 8 players. ON-O fouls out, that's 7 players. 3 remaining players had so-so to crappy games: Williams, Westbrook, and Muhl. Hence, even with a comfy lead while starter Paige, starter Edwards (not AA), transfer Juhasz (still playin uneven), Ducharme (unproven frosh), and Westbrook so another ball handler, there were not AA's on the bench whether AA in WCBB or AA in high school. UConn tends to play longer to build up its players' stamina and to get them as much real-time game minutes together, especially after a 11-day layoff and in 2 weeks a 10-day layoff. Such an injury can occur in practice, on campus, or earlier in the game. UConn was relying on a very short roster to run the game out in 2nd gear and not let ND have a 14-2 run in last few minutes making a comfy win end with bad taste in one's mouth for players and coaches alike. I have rooted for three WCBB teams over the last 40+ years, I think this may be the first last minute, non-contact (even a non-play) injury. It sucks. But some team do a hockey line 3-4 player en masse substitution in a comfy win with 45 seconds left. Not many top-tier teams do it. UConn does it in the final reg season game, the and the final NCAAW game.
