Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Husky Nan said in so many words that she was banning any fan of other teams that was going to post about GT-UConn game.

And that, is why I do not belong to the Boneyard. That sort of censorship is asinine. It’s a sports forum and you can’t handle a loss?

What a sensitive fan base lmao. They had better gird their loins because they are in for several more. I think even a couple Big East teams can knock them off.

What a miserable way to go through life. That site does not even allow game threads until after a game is completed. As for posters, it's either you are on the fan wagon or you are gone. Comical how thin skinned and insecure they are over there.

Nan=Maria. Different name, but same m.o...although Nan isn't nearly as self-righteous as Maria is.

I actually registered there a few weeks back when one of their members stole something I posted here and posted it on the BY. I was gonna say something, but decided against it. The General WBB subthread has some good conversations about non-UConn activity, but I still lurk more than I post.

I think Pat was always really kind to her (like she was to everyone) and she took that to mean she was somehow special lol.

Kellie always looks visibly annoyed when she asks her questions and she has clearly been given a 2 question limit.

There are posters here that would probably support using chat instead of game threads during the games to cut down on some of the over the top "the end is near" rollercoaster posts in the game thread.. I've never joined one of their chats, so I don't know if it's any better. I suppose it probably got pretty heated yesterday, and having those "woe is me"/"death to Geno" posts in the main board would have kept Nan up all night playing clean up.

BINGO! Her claim to fame was her "inside scoop" due to her seemingly unfettered access to Pat (who knows how much of that was real). Holly allowed that to an extent, but it was clear that Maria was only able to report on the narrative to Holly's stringent specifications. I'm glad to Kellie has no time for her nonsense.

Maria's moderation style was that you had to toe her line, whether you were a LV fan or someone else. That meant everything was rainbow and butterflies, and any critique of the program, coaches or players (no matter how reasonable) was grounds for banishment. Nan seems to tolerate dissent within the UConn fanbase and is generally welcome to comments from other fanbases...as long as it isn't straight up trash-talking (which is reasonable) or providing your 2 cents if things are not going swimmingly (not so reasonable IMO). She seems to do a good enough job of calling out UConn homers when they are being d!cks, though.

. Was it a breakdown of recruit rankings of SCar and UConn? If so, I apologize for "stealing" it. Next time, I'll give you credit.

Tell us Geno, why does your team play like a middle school team without Paige?

Great post, thank you. Sadly, your solution, just to avoid any discussion is the normal reaction. But IMO the basic concept, which the finger-wagging replies apparently missed, is very important. We are not the ones sexualizing. We are the ones calling it out. We said NIL would do it and here they are, doing it.

If we really want an elephant in the room discussion, we'd discuss how the athletes play into that dynamic with pose and picture choice. But that's one we REALLY better leave alone bc it so often gets interpreted as victim blaming.
Just freaking stop! Is it really that much of a burden to not comment on minor girls looks and dress??
If it is then maybe you are a little creepy. If a gay man was on this forum commenting on a male high school player and how he was wearing some sort of clothing some folks on here would lose their minds!
As far as the comment on victim shaming. Yes it is wrong, I thought we as a society had moved beyond “but she had a short skirt on” excuses. If you wouldn’t make a comment about a minor girls appearance sitting next to her father then maybe it shouldn’t be made.
Freak, sorry if this makes your job harder. I couldn’t let this one go uncommented on.

Hopefully your Gamecocks show no mercy to the wounded. I expect at least doubling the MOV from last time if they are still shorthanded.

I think their game against also crippled UCLA and Oregon will tell us a lot about the chances of recovery when page returns

I watch that game yesterday like most of you, and while CT did eventually crash and burn and take the loss, there were also quite a few moments in the game they looked really good. That one post player had a nightmare of a game and couldn't make a bunny, but Ododo looked pretty good to me much of the time. Both Evina and Crystal had some nice moments as well.

For the majority of the game, even, I thought CT found enough cohesiveness, and had enough talent, to beat GT (and most future opponents), but it was that recently-developed case of mental weakness that did them in. They are not enjoying the games, and they are not are no longer confident they are going to win the tight ones.

We here recognize this all too well, because it was what happened to Tennessee a few years ago. FORTUNATELY, we have a staff and a group of players now that have changed course completely from that time and that tendency to panic, and our program is well on its way back to having its old swagger.

I think everyone who is certain and hoping CT is done for the year are likely in for a huge disappointment. They've got plenty of time to get players back and work on chemistry before they really have to panic. They are, IMO, nowhere near that point yet, and I predict they'll start with a win against UCLA.

I feel you are intentionally misrepresenting the conversation. NO ONE here is commenting on minor girls looks and dress and I'm just sure you get that. So is it creepy to talk about others, such as NIL, who actually do that? I just can't get that. Like don't discuss cancer and its treatments bc that makes cancer worse? Once again, it was predicted here (and decried) that less skilled, more conventionally attractive players would get unlikely NIL deals. Here it obviously is. But we're creeps if we say it?

IMO, that kind of broad brush over the top sensitivity is what is causing alot of very needed conversations not to happen, and making some real idiots seem justified.

Last time, I promise.

Holy sh*t needs to be banned from the court can seriously hurt someone over a basketball game

Woman is charged with encouraging her 14-year-old daughter she shares with former NBA player Corey Benjamin to sucker-punch Asian rival, 15, during school basketball game

A California woman has been charged after she was caught on camera encouraging her 14 year-old daughter to sucker-punch a 15 year-old rival during a school basketball game last month.

Latyra Shonty Hunt, 44, can be seen on cell phone video recorded at a game last month yelling 'you better hit her for that' before her daughter attacks her opponent, Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer said Thursday.

She shares her daughter with her ex, former NBA player Corey Benjamin, 43, who was drafted by the Chicago Bulls in 1998.

Actually there were posts talking specifically about the young lady’s looks and the vibe from the photo.
I do not know if they were removed or edited or if you did not read that far back but they were there.
I take your reference to NIL to mean hey, if the young women put pictures out there to try and get NIL dollars then they deserve whatever comments come their way. I will agree that sometimes these teenagers are ill served by the adults around them who should know what representations make sense for their age and which ones don’t. That doesn’t mean they deserve inappropriate comments by unknown men. NIL may have unintended consequences.
I’m done as well.
