Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Big win for Nebraska and decent looking crowd. Now let's see if UNC is for real.

this definitely gives them more validity... i think some games vs MD, Ind, Ohio St and Iowa will show us if they are for real.

I don't see UNC getting past NC St although they got them last year. For UNC they have games against Duke twice (i think they'll split), NC State twice , but it will be the games against VA Tech, GA Tech and even Wake Forest that will say a lot about them. They may get 7-8 losses in their own conference. Not to mention they have to play Louisville.

Tennessee made their biggest move in the NET by beating ETSU and Chattanooga. We went from 19 to 10 and have hung steady after wins over Bama and Arkansas. Nebraska has a SOS of 93 and ours is 6 yet they are eighth in the net and we are tenth. If the Net is going to be the criteria for teams going forward then something is very wrong with it.

For those dogging Lady Vols attendance, Baylor men who just won the title and is currently #1 only had 7500 tonight vs RV Oklahoma. SC men played the top ranked SEC team in Auburn and only had 8K. Just wanted to share so we can compare UT women's attendance doing just fine this season.

Makes me think it is intentional to increase parity. The tournament will shake that out. Playing tough competition still makes your team better. Pat proved that over and over and over again.

Kellie will do the same. If these teams want to play cupcakes all season and get a 2 seed so be it. When it comes tournament time those teams aren’t likely to cut down any nets. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Exactly. All the film-watching and subsequent attempts to emulate the intensity and skills of top notch opponents in practice just doesn’t quite do as much to prepare players as having live games does.

That’s NOT to say a very good staff and practice squad can’t get darn close, but facing real opponents in real pressure situations is always going to be the best training.

I’ve been thrilled with how Tennessee’s schedule has worked out to this point. It was the perfect formula to offer some challenges, but not too many to overwhelm them. And it has offered a few games for everyone to have fun playing in.

I said it a while back: I hope the staff takes this year’s schedule and does their best to make it their formula for the future. Just try to find similarly-skilled opponents and plug them into the same spots in future schedules.

North Carolina ranking is even worse. Their sos is 151, and they’re ranked #3 in the Net.

Massey’s also has North Carolina a sos of 113, ranked #6. Tennessee sos 9, rank #8.

Still think it’s not fair or right that both teams got into the Net top 10 by winning against a ridiculously easy schedule. Now, they get a good win here or there, they’ll stay highly ranked.
Nebraska got credited by the Net for beating Net #59 Wake Forest on the road by 26. In the Net ranking system beating a team on the road that is ranked within the top 75 is the same as beating a within the top 50 at home.

Net Rankings.

It takes into account game results, strength of schedule, game location, scoring margin, net offensive and defensive efficiency, and the quality of wins and losses.

Quadrant 1 (Q1): Home (1-30) Neutral (-1-50)
Away (1-75)
Quadrant 2 (Q2): Home (31-75)Neutral (51-100)Away (76-135)
Quadrant 3 (Q3): Home (76-160)Neutral (101-200)Away (136-240)
Quadrant 4 (Q4): Home (161-356)Neutral (201-356)Away (241-356)

According to the Net, losing to #4 Stanford at home is the same losing to #68 Michigan St. on road.

And just WHO, besides Louisville, did Arizona play or defeat to garner their ranking in ALL the polls. They even received 3 #1 votes in the AP poll having played no one for the last 3 weeks. They have only 2 ranked teams on their entire schedule, for THE ENTIRE SEASON. It just makes no sense. AT ALL.
