Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

And just WHO, besides Louisville, did Arizona play or defeat to garner their ranking in ALL the polls. They even received 3 #1 votes in the AP poll having played no one for the last 3 weeks. They have only 2 ranked teams on their entire schedule, for THE ENTIRE SEASON. It just makes no sense. AT ALL.

Color me confused there too. I know they had a good run last season. That was fueled almost entirely by McDonald last season.

They are a totally different team (a very good one) but untested IMO. Louisville is an interesting team. They have a tendency to play down to their opponent at times.

Texas Tech 7 and 5 and 0 and 3 against the SEC beat Texas at Texas. Wonder the attendance and where is the outcry on Schaffer and his teams floundering offense. Waiting Darth.....

Totally surprised to see Tech go into Austin and win. Great win for Coach Gerlich. Would love for her to bring Tech back to where Marsha Sharp had them.
You all do realize it makes our win Against Texas weaker smh I’d rather them lose to Baylor Sunday wait collen cancelled it I see due to covid at Baylor literally 5 days ahead 🤦🏽‍♂️

Tech was 0-3 against the SEC. I think Bremaber was absent when Georgia played them. I am certain Vivian Gray was absent against Ole Miss and LSU. Gray is a gamer. Tech both her and Breamber tonight. They are a different ball club with those two on the floor.

How dare you berate Tennessee's signature win this season...
Nice deflect. Oh BTW Texas attendance was less than 3K and Texas barely shot 30%. Something you always berate Kellie for.

And Virginia Tech may actually so far be the more signature win, as they are 12th in the NET and it was at Vtech. Texas even with the loss is at 6 in the NET which makes zero sense but it is what it is. Going by that, any top 15 NET victory is huge. Lady Vols or not. No? Virgina Tech likely won't lose at home again until they play GA Tech, UNC, and NC State late in the season. Will be interesting to see how those games unfold.

Anyone else take note of all those games UCONN cancelled? Seems something is going on with their team, and they are using injury and Covid as excuses. They don’t want to go out and potentially lose to teams they have traditionally scorched on the floor. Even if and when Paige returns, I don’t think UCONN has what it takes to win another championship this year. People are not afraid of them anymore, and I think it’s refreshing David finally took out the Goliath giant that intimated so many teams over the years.
I said this on Twitter and the Connie’s came after me hard lol

The Texas game losing to Texas Tech by 13 at home. Sc losing to Missouri. Florida Gulf Coast over LSU, the list this season goes on and on. Have to bring your A game everytime out this season. Va Tech destroys Duke and loses to Liberty. Lady Vols have a game tonight they better be ready to play.
and Baylor losing to Kansas State is also why I am not so confident with wins in conference play with the Lady Vols

I tense up more with home games than road games cause it is a must to win the ones at home. I know were going to slip up somewhere on the road this season, but hopefully not at home. This game tonight is going to be a lot like Arkansas and hopefully like Arkansas they are not making many threes.

I do believe our length and defense had a lot to do with Arkansas’ poor shooting. Having watched it a few times now I actually think Kellie was spotting Ramirez hers. That’s why Tess was on her when she was in the game. A little strategic, let team’s volume scorer kinda do their thing and everyone else gets forgotten about. The volume scorer will end up taking even more shots than usual.

Our weakest 1-1 defender guarded Amber all game except for a few minutes where Horston guarded her when she got hot from mid-range. After Jordy picked her up for a minute she went back to launching 3s. I do not believe she scored at all when Horston was on her.

Wolfenbarger and Daniels are not used to shooting over our length. Jersey in particular was rushing her shots afraid Tamari was going to block her from 3. Suspect A&M will find it similarly difficult.

I do believe if we win the battle in the paint and the battle on the boards we will win. My hope for today is to see the team play more consistently in the middle stretch of the game. To start the season our first quarters were rough. Now they are playing great to start and finish games. If we can get 40 minutes of that kind of play from each player who enters the game we will start blowing out even some good teams.

I'll be interested to see who is guarding Wells that to me is a very key matchup. There is always one players you want to stop and I think she is the key player for them. I know Nixon is also a terrific player, But Wells is the better three point shooter. In the Arkansas game we were able to really limit everyone except Ramirez and again we can afford one player to do well if the rest do badly.

You just said it all. Every opposing coach post-game says, "We just had a bad shooting night" after they play us. As though our defense, Length, and Size have nothing to do with it. All these teams that shoot 42%-48% on an average night play Tennessee; shoot 30-31% and blame it on a bad shooting night. Got it. LOL

Nice writeup. Looks like the "non" thread is now not "non". :)

No doubt, putting Darby on Ramirez was the key coaching move that won the game. Chess/checkers...
