Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I don't have anything against Evina Westbrook, and will always remember her primarily for how excited and proud she was to be a Lady Vol leading up to her freshman season. She wanted so very much to be instrumental in leading Tennessee back to prominence. It touched my heart how sincere she was ... how innocently optimistic she was.

Fast-forward a couple of years later, after the wheels had fallen off the head coach's bandwagon, and suddenly a controversy-hungry journalist is shoving a microphone into the face of a young person, still sweating and hurting after a devastating season ending loss, pressing HARD for a quote from her.

IT STILL INFURIATES ME that she was put into that position. She tried, as I recall, to move on and to avoid answering. But the wolves wanted fresh meat, and they finally used the kid to get some.

All these years later and I'm still mad over that. And then the way the Tennessee fanship twisted what happened into a reason to attack her still bothers me even more. Ugh. I mean, I can't stand Connecticut, but I couldn't blame her at all for going there after having been so grossly (IMO) mischaracterized for something she said that I always felt strongly that she had hoped might help save, not harm, the Lady Vol legacy. But then afterward she was attacked. It was awful.

So, yeah. Just like I would want ANY young person who is given a chance to succeed in a job they're given regardless of where they went to school, when EW gets a job at the next level I hope her team does well unless a LVFL is on the other team. That's it! 😀

Very well said. Thank you.

Hey, don't get me wrong, Luna. I'm no Hussy (to use an awful throwback insult from the old days - lol) sympathizer. I hope your team loses their next game BIG, though because Auriemma sold his soul to Satan years ago, his evil henchwomen will probably win the dang natty. lol

But I can't for the life of me work up a foaming hate for a kid whom I know once bled orange. She may have convinced herself and others that all that was just a bad dream, but I am not fooled. Her heart was broken and she reacted. That doesn't mean she never tried her damnedest to do what she came to Tennessee to do. It just didn't work out like anyone hoped it would.

Now, go away, Bonehead! 😁

This x100. I always thought the interview was unfair, and unfairly interpreted. And the Westbrook hate irrational.

Part of the problem was her Mom's engagement with fans on social media and is a cautionary tale as to why parents should never, ever do that.

I also find it amusing that LV fans deride EW for coming off the bench and playing reduced mins. Yet they want every single player out of the portal for the LVs which means coming off the bench and reduced mins for several of our current LVs. It's what happens as the roster starts getting stacked.

I wish EW, and every single player who endured the Holly era the best.

she's dancin longer than anyone on TN. Isn't that the point of your hate of a great player? Cuz she isn't dancin with you?

No, dear, it's not. But you know that.

You should save some of your righteous indignation for your head coach who has publicly disparaged players who either spurned his invitation or who decided to transfer. Instead, you waste your time needling the only program whose success can rival yours and lavishing praise on one of our former players who gave us the middle finger on her way out. You don't acknowledge that you don't see similar attitudes toward Collins or Massengill, teammates who similarly left our program since the coaching change.

If your program struggles after Wino retires, let's see one of your top players behave in a similar fashion while leaving and then sit back and listen to the reactions of your fans. I'd bet hard cash that their furor and vulgarity will make LV fan criticism look like a 1940's Disney script.

Ugh. I hate when we do this. Puts us exactly on par with the SC fans who make fun of Pat's disease. If we think Geno has the disease of alcoholism, which we absolutely don't know, making fun of it is a million miles out of bounds IMO.

I have no idea of the jerk's drinking habits. Other than a vague memory of some accusation that he evidently had too much to drink at a tournament (Puerto Rico?) which I think came around the same time he was accused of sexual assault and hearing that he's fond of wine, I don't have any reason to think he's an alcoholic. He does act unhinged at times during games (which appears to be just a circus act during which CD acts as his willing but bemused partner) and sometimes stares off slack-jawed and bleary-eyed during games. But you're right, it's inappropriate and sends a wrong message. If his nickname wasn't "Geno," it wouldn't have occurred to me, frankly. But that's no excuse since it just stoops to his level. "Fatso" also kind of rhymes, but that's not very nice, either.

Funny. I got criticized for calling him "Luigi"...which is his birth name...for using some sort of stereotypically-ethnic name. I should have just begun and stuck with the appropriate name for a person of his character, but that name wouldn't go over too well, either.

At least I didn't insinuate that he is connected. ;)

Name one fan of SC who made fun of Pat....show me that low life human. I am sure you can't and you are just saying this. If you show me one, I will personally call them the POS they really are....so show me the facts of this horrible accusation.

You need to go a ways back in this thread a lot has been posted you have to go look at it to see it. It is there from you SC fans. Not going to keep posting it over and over.

SC could have used 30 from Boston today. Up 14 in the fourth quarter and losing would be impossible if you had a player who
"No one can stop".
I can't wait for the next banner:
South Carolina
Winner of the 2021-2022
SEC Championship
Almost
Boston 28/22 and still in it for the National title.

Yea...I thought it wasn't something you could post....and if it's true....they are a POS none the less, SC fan or not.

You’ve been gone for a while…just wait for the receipts.

Exactly. This is what I have said for years, and I very carefully watched and listened to the video to be sure I understood what she said as opposed to what the media (and some fans) either claimed or thought she said.

I will add one thing. It was a disgrace for the University and athletic staff to allow her to be in that position and give her no support or direction when the she wolf came after her, again and again. I believe the so called reporter apologized afterwards; I don’t know if that is true, but Evina was certainly owed an apology.

I will not deny Evina had a “not so good look” afterwards, and I called her out for it. It was explained to me, and, although it was not how I would have reacted, I wasn’t a young kid that had had her feelings trampled by those who should have supported her, and I come from a different culture. This may be the US, but we have a lot of different cultural patterns. I was told it was not meant the way I, and most others in the Southeast, took it. I accept that explanation. Everything other thing I had seen from Evina was always a class act, a good kid, so there was no reason to not accept her explanation.

I do NOT like ucoon and believe Geno is contemptible, and I think higher of him than the trolls that show up on this board. That said, every uconn fan I have ever met, although very few in number, have been polite and enjoyable to talk with. As a general rule uconn’s players are well behaved too, yes, there’s always the exception, but there are more Stewarts than Taurasis by a long shot! Other than condoning geno my only problem with uconn is the president they sent us!

Sorry for the ramble everyone, but @lvocd hit my sore spot and knocked the scab off. Evina is a good kid (young lady).
