Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I don't have anything against Evina Westbrook, and will always remember her primarily for how excited and proud she was to be a Lady Vol leading up to her freshman season. She wanted so very much to be instrumental in leading Tennessee back to prominence. It touched my heart how sincere she was ... how innocently optimistic she was.

Fast-forward a couple of years later, after the wheels had fallen off the head coach's bandwagon, and suddenly a controversy-hungry journalist is shoving a microphone into the face of a young person, still sweating and hurting after a devastating season ending loss, pressing HARD for a quote from her.

IT STILL INFURIATES ME that she was put into that position. She tried, as I recall, to move on and to avoid answering. But the wolves wanted fresh meat, and they finally used the kid to get some.

All these years later and I'm still mad over that. And then the way the Tennessee fanship twisted what happened into a reason to attack her still bothers me even more. Ugh. I mean, I can't stand Connecticut, but I couldn't blame her at all for going there after having been so grossly (IMO) mischaracterized for something she said that I always felt strongly that she had hoped might help save, not harm, the Lady Vol legacy. But then afterward she was attacked. It was awful.

So, yeah. Just like I would want ANY young person who is given a chance to succeed in a job they're given regardless of where they went to school, when EW gets a job at the next level I hope her team does well unless a LVFL is on the other team. That's it! 😀

Some of you Westbrook fans continuously try to perpetuate the false narrative that some evil reporter stuck a stun gun to Westbrook's body and forced her to call for the firing of Tennessee coach/coaches. You try to make it sound like Westbrook was a helpless child. Westbrook wanted changes in the coaching staff, and she said so publicly, which is something no player should ever do.

She didn't exactly call a press conference. The reporter was interviewing Westbrook, and she answered the question fairly diplomatically. Besides, we should all be happy that led to Holly getting fired. Otherwise, she would have broken the remaining streaks that Tennessee has left.

This characterization of EW's comment is so disingenuous, but I know you know that. Your loyalty to Holly remains steadfast.

The reporter actually did stick a loaded mike under her nose immediate post season ending loss and asked leading questions which she meekly answered. We've all seen the video. You're the one twisting to suit your narrative.

I have no loyalty to anyone at the University of Tennessee.

Stuck a LOADED MIKE UNDER HER NOSE. LEADING QUESTIONS. MEEKLY ANSWERED. POOR HELPLESS LITTLE GIRL.

That would make 3 UConn classes in a row that will graduate without a NC
the 2017 class had 2016 rings, as did the 2018 class , and the 2019 class. In 2020 there was no national championship and in 2021 no one graduated. So UConn only got Final four banners to hang for the last 4 championships which are in a closet somewhere. Sheesh, it's bad enough you hammered us for all the games we lost, you don't have to exaggerate our pain.

The first 3 are true, and they do not equal the fourth. Her situation at the moment got taken advantage of and then blown out of proportion. Had nothing to do with her being poor, helpless, little, or a girl.

Warlick needed to be fired. Was going to be fired. No player should ever publicly call for the firing of their coaches, which Westbrook did. She was not the Athletic's Director. She was not recruited to Tennessee to publicly give her opinions on Tennessee's coaching staff.

Dangerfield's class left without a ring, Walker's class left without a ring (and she left early), and now potentially Williams'/ONO's class will leave without a ring. What am I missing?

She never said that they needed to fire Holly. She said that the team and the coaches needed to make some changes. That's about as vague a response as one can get.

Worse than that. She said changes need to be made, he said "staff too?" and she was like, I guess, yeah everything. THAT was her publicly calling for HWs execution. Again, there's video, we've seen it. This is what happened.

Chrystal and Megan both left in 2020 in which no championship was held. Although SCAR got a banner.
Besides them this years seniors will have spent 4 years at UConn without a ring if you get your wish.

That doesn't mean that Crystal and Megan got NCs either. Crystal was class of 2020, Megan class of 2021 and ONO/Christyn class of 2022. If UConn doesn't win the NC this season, then as I said, this will be the third class in a row that will leave UConn without a NC. That's what the records will show.

Changes can be in personnel or process. She didn't call for Holly (or anyone in the coaching staff) to be fired.

with an asterisk for 2020. :) it's really a sad tale isn't it.

there was another class between Taurasi and Moore that spent four years an didn't get a ring.

2020? Was that the season that SC, Oregon and Baylor beat UConn like a red-headed stepchild? Yeah, you had a chance in 2020. Keep telling yourself that.

3 classes in a row leaving empty handed. #sorrynotsorry

It's an amazing thing about statistics, we can bend them any way we want.
bottom line in recent history 2 1 player played 4 years without a national championship ring. It just disgusting!
