Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

I feel bad for NC State. Seems like they always getting screwed. They were in the driver seat to win the baseball national championship. Then a NCAA protocol rule about Covid cause them to have to forfeit one game before the championship. NC state earned the number 1 seed , but playing near a lower seed home court to go to the final 4. The fair thing was to send UConn to one of the other regions.

I think that mostly referred to the second-tier teams outside the top 3. The top-tier, star-loaded teams basically divide up the best players in the country while everyone else tries to land one top 20 player if possible. As mentioned, if those top teams stay healthy, they can just out-talent other teams the way we used to do when we had our pick and were basically competing for players against one or two others while the rest settled for what was left.

It's the same with the men. Any surprise that Duke, North Carolina, and Kansas are in their Final Four?
North Carolina is an 8th seed and this is their 1st FF appearance since 2017. This is just Dook's 3rd FF in 18 years.

SC was the one that cancelled the game, not UConn.

UConn moved up the S curve because LSU, Michigan, and Iowa State lost games to teams ranked below them. They were #6 overall, so that puts them vs. NCST. If those teams I mentioned hadn't lost (or only lost to other teams on the top 8), then UConn couldn't have moved up into Bridgeport.

Yes, UConn was projected to Greensboro before all that happened. I posted on another board, I would rather deal with them there than in Minneapolis.

Bueckers is just annoying. Can’t stand her.

Total BS NC State has to play as the 1 seed in an environment like this. So glad they are changing things next season. This is just stupid. Even the DJ is obviously pro UCONN wtf?
Me either. That’s one big reason I do not watch their games, including this one.

That wasn't offensive execution from UConn. That was just some superb individual play from Bueckers.

Stanford and SC's defense/rebounding/post play will give them the advantage against UConn. Bueckers will need to play even more out of her mind than she did tonight for UConn to win.

I agree. UConn played well but they also played the way they have played so many times - get the lead and then let the other team get back in the game. Credit NCST for that. Bueckers did what she does, annoyingly (to me at least), she kind of coasts until the chips are down and then she steps up. I am concerned that she will step up too late.

If UConn's guards can get in the game early USC's post play may not be such a huge factor. I do think that losing Juhasz is a big deal because ONO and Edwards will get in foul trouble - again.

Hey, I'm the one who has been saying CT will win it all (if B is back) for months, and there are obviously reasons I'd say that. I may be misremembering, but I think you may have been one of those who kept saying no way. Lol[/QUOTE}
This is Stanford's tournament to lose. If Stanford plays to its ability, they win back-to-back titles.

NC State's flaw throughout the season was they were slow starting team and would have to rally to win games. Against UConn, I always prefer teams need to jump on them early and often.

And better have your head on a swivel trying to guard their halfcourt offense.

Just a well-coached team...
I really love Van Lith's game. You can feel her intensity through the TV screen. Just a great player who's playing her best at the most important part of the season. Engstler was another great pickup for Walz. They aren't the biggest team, but they must feel like they are all 7 ft tall with the way they get after the ball.

I think Cochran got called for the foul too. It came on a turn from Key where her elbow came down on Olivia's face. She was crying the rest of the game. Looked like a pretty good hit.

I remember her crying. I thought she was crying because she fouled out.

Hadn't noticed. But I don't mind players that show some passion for the game.

I don't mean on the court. It's the pressers.

She also has a foul mouth just like her coach. In fact, the tv coverage just caught her dropping an F-bomb during post-game celebration (Walz yelled a couple in the waning seconds when they had clinched the win).

Great player, though.
