What in the world was UNC doing there the last 4 seconds? It's like they just gave up. I mean, thanks for the win and all but where's the heart? UNC fans have to be crazy disappointed in those kids.

Pretty Sure Davis Farted really loud when he went up for the rebound, and everyone was looking around to see who would claim it.

It was an excellent game, and I'll start off by saying that Calipari's one-and-done methodology will eventually pay off. Might be this year; might not. We'll see. Anyhow, as for UNC, I'll have to say that they actually impressed me more in this loss than they have in any of their wins really (especially the Wisconsin win, which was really lackluster). The thing that bothers me is this though: UNC shot the best it has shot from the perimeter in longer than I can remember, and we still lost. (I often joke with people that if it wasn't for the 3-point shot, Carolina would never loose, because it always seems like we're outshot from there.) That's saying something. Kentucky won the Elite 8 matchup last year with similar 3-point shooting. In fact, the numbers were nearly inversed between the squads. Without their 3-point shooting last year (and UNC's horrible perimeter shooting), Kentucky probably doesn't win that Elite 8 matchup; however, they won today while Carolina was red hot from out there, and UK wasn't. That worries me, because we might not see that good of an outside shooting performance from UNC again. That being said, though, UNC wasn't as good from the post as they usually are either. March is still a long way off. Expect to see both of these teams relevant in the Big Dance.

And please don't think my commentary was a knock on UK. They're a talented group of players. Should do some good things this year.

Quite honestly, this matchup comes down to who was playing at home. Carolina probably takes the win at Chapel Hill. Just the way it goes, and games in Nov/Dec really don't mean damn in the long run. Both teams will be better, and stronger come March.

Why didn't UNC get the ball back when Teague walked when there was 1.5 seconds left in the game?

Rumor has it this is the last game of this series for a while. The series contract ended this year and I don't think it is going to be renewed, at least anytime soon.

That's a real shame. I have looked forward to this game on the first Saturday in December for over a decade now. It's become a stable of my sports year. UNC-UK at noon, then conference championship football games later on in the afternoon. This would put a damper on one part of that equation at least.

Probably for the same reason they didn't call the small elbow to his back in a lame attempt to foul with 1 second left, the game was over. Here is the video.

Why didn't Roy Willams use one of his two timeouts on that last play, or get his players to foul? Crap happens. One can ask irrelevant questions all day long.

Right, if you're gonna foul, foul them hard with 5 seconds left. Don't just stand there stunned, baby blue pansies.

why is Calapari being a pansy? He has the best teams - so what is he scared of? Bruce scheduled a top 3 toughest schedule in the nation ever year and never had close to the talent UK has had recently.

This game is gong to come down to who can make outside shots, IMO. Lamb is the X factor with his shooting, I highly doubt Wiltjer see's the floor other than to spell a few minutes before a timeout, his D is a complete liability.

Great call.

UNC shoots 61% from 3 and UK shoots 23%. Wiltjer comes into the game and takes part in one of the biggest defensive plays of the game.

Cal deals with a young team every year. Scheduling the most difficult teams before the freshman learn the offense isnt wise.

Too bad this series is going to go away for awhile.

Not set in stone yet. They renew every two years for two years, and it is up for renewal. Both sides want to keep it going, but don't know if conference expansion will crowd out these types of series.

It was a good call. Wiltjer played 5 minutes the entire game, just as I said he would. Yipee, he made one decent play on D. Point is, if he had played 20 minutes in this game then he would have been a liability, which was obvious to Cal and everyone else with a basketball IQ, unlike yourself. UNC led the majority of the game and controlled it with their outside shooting. You can't dismiss 35 minutes of what happened in the game and then use the other 5 to try and make a point.

I shared my thoughts on that a few pages back in the thread. I see his reason, which is in my mind mostly abou tourney seeding, but I disagree with it.

You said the game would be decided by outside shooting, how much more could you be wrong?

61>23, didnt you take math before dropping out?

Give me a break. You act as if the dribble-drive is complex or something. It's not. That's why Cal runs it. It's very, very simple.

Thats funny!

If you think the dribble drive is just driving and kicking out, you know nothing.

These kids come from schools where they're just cut loose and allowed to do anything. They've never seen sophisticated zones, full court pressure against 6'8 guys. They're thrown into the biggest program in America and expected to learn how to defend the toughest offenses and taught to defend guys that should be in the NBA. They need time to adjust. Playing Duke, Kansas, UNC, UConn early doesnt help the team.
