Going to be interesting to see who they hire this late. Probably promote an assistant which begs the question how do you fire the coach but promote an assistant that was there at the same time the incident(s) occurred.
All kinds of questions - who coaches; what to do about upperclass team leaders who were part of the old perverted system; how do you combine one win and a scandal like that and come away with any kind of self respect; how many players simply walk away.

A coach that has the guts to walk into that scenario deserves respect and if he restores any kind of decency he is a miracle worker.

I have a name to think about...Brian Hartline. I remember when Jeff Hafley was to become a DC and then was lured away by a job that seems to fit his demeanor. Well, here we are again. A young energetic guy who has something special and could bring downtown Chicago to a place it hasn't been since...well Pat Fitzgerald.

David Shaw’s name has been thrown out there as a possibility.

Stanford's fall from grace is very interesting. People talk about Stanford being hamstrung by Early Signing Day, despite still averaging classes in the top half of the Pac-12, and having greater difficulty reloading in the transfer portal era but I don't know if the incredible slide is purely attributed to a talent gap or Shaw just being unable/unwilling to adjust his schematics to fit his current roster makeup.

No matter the cause for the last four seasons, I don't think Northwestern could find anyone stronger this summer to fill in as head coach or even this fall carousel as a full-time replacement. Shaw seems to run a tight ship and obviously understands the name of the game at an elite academic school that just so happens to offer Power 5 football. Shaw is just uniquely suited to this job.

Northwestern is probably the toughest P5 job in college football.
Maybe, but they're a lot better than they used to be. From 1978 to 1981, they were 0-35-1 in the Big Ten. They were 0-11 in both 1980 and 1981. In 1981, they were shut out 5 times in 11 games, while averaging 7 points on the season ... and that was with a pretty good coach in Dennis Green - who was able to win at Stanford later on.

Listening to ESPN Radio, and Jay Williams just went through a list of 20+ incidents in the Big 10 in the last 15+ years. Everything from Ohio St. tattoo incident, Jerry Sandusky, Larry Nassar, and other sexual hazing incidents. What is going on up there?

Like Jeff Hafley. He is a good fit for Boston College.

Vanderbilt would like a word.

Edit: Northwestern will be a very coveted job. Pat Fitzgerald had success there. They’ll never go to a CFP or B1G title game again, but they have awesome facilities, outstanding academics, just outside of a very fun city (given you stay in the right areas). Not to mention you’re now in the Power 2. There’s so much $$ in the B1G now, almost every school is a destination.

I can’t wait for the sports media that is peppered with Northwestern Journalism grads weigh in on who they think NEEDS to be the next head coach . It really is absurd how many sports writers and talkers graduated from a school that really isn’t consistently good at anything in sports.

In HS football, you did not want to be the last guy on the bus walking to the back. You had to carry all your equipment through that narrow corridor and block all the pokes to the crotch and b-hole. WTF was wrong with us?
