'25 Northwestern Transfer OL Josh Thompson

Yes, a freshman. This isn’t EA sports NCAA 25 the video game. If we recruited the position right we’d have someone talented who has been in the S&C program for multiple years by now ready to go.
We recruited Bennett Warren, and Mr Larry Johnson, and Sam Umarov, and others. None have stepped up and won the job.

I'm not Ellerbee apologist, but that is facts.

So why does almost every #1 tackle in the country the last 6 years start as a freshman. Surely not every team in the country has poor depth

Georgia, Penn state, Oregon, Ohio state all start upper classmen at offensive tackle minus Georgia having one sophomore. Not a coincidence these teams have dominated and share that in common

Broken? Really?
A broken fanbase allows 30k opponent fans to come in to your house buy your seats. (Cough: Buckeyes). That used to happen in Neyland (Bama game 8-10 yrs ago) and we were broken then for sure. I feel confident that’s not happening anytime soon in Knoxville. The fanbase is one of the best things about UT football right now. Is there some hand-wringing about our boys getting their teeth kicked in? Absolutely…most people care. Broken? No.
Well, all I have read the past few days is all the players and coaches suck. You would think we are coming off a 4-8 season based on how some fans are acting. You guys are acting like our program is in deep trouble and one of the worst in the SEC. Some of you need to take a step back and breathe.

The only year we didnt recruit the position well was 2023. They went and got Lance Heard man. There are only so many tackles in the Country.

Ive been very vocal about Ellarbee. The G depth is inexcusable. T is one of his very very few areas where he gets a C, minus.

Lack of developing anyone, on the roster that HE DID recruit, porous lines, and poor pass blocking along with very average returns in recruiting is more than concerning.

Even more concerning is seeing a USF team with a flag football QB run our offense better than us.

More concerning than that, is seeing Allburn, Florida load up on 4/5 star WR athletes. After we came in 2nd place for Ryan Williams, Ryan Wingo, and others. We have no depth or talent at WR. That is inexcusable.

Farring Ellarbee and DC are a VN tradition.
I was talking about you USF comments. I hope you were joking. Also, Auburn is coming off its 4th straight losing season. I think our way is working better than theirs. Florida is going to be the media darling this offseason along with South Carolina. We will see how they handle expectations.

I'm not at all. Despite having a 1450 rusher, offense has regressed, specifically the passing game. That trended down when Alex left for USF, which uses much more motion to expose mismatches. Golesh is a much more effective play caller than Joey Halzle.

Florida has another gauntlet schedule in 2025. so yes temper expectations there. I am saying that our WR recruiting hasnt been good.

USF went 7-6 this year. Let’s calm down on the Golesh love

Rightfully so. It exposed what we really are. We're not as close to being elite as we thought before that game.

2016...

I was just looking at the roster the other day and was amazed at how much talent Huepel has been able to recruit the last 2 years. This team is stacked with talent at just about every position. Especially along the defensive line. Now most of the talent is young. Which means that 2025 might be the more likely breakthrough season but man am I excited for this season.

I think we could be the best team in the country if all the young guys can live up to their potential.
