How about LJ3 who has been ahead of both of them.
Yep…also a possibility. I didn’t mention him in the post you’re replying to (although I did mention him in another) because he’s been over at left tackle all year, but he is definitely a possibility on the right side too. I think we have plenty of really good options at tackle who will develop and make a jump over the off-season. Our depth there will be better next year than it was this year.

I'm surprised we haven't had any Portal guys commit to us yet. You would think they would be jumping on the band wagon. Or are we just being picky? Needs a separate thread too.

Heupel, like Barnes, is going to really be sure of who he brings into his locker room I suspect. He also needs to know who else is leaving. Can't risk rushing in and getting blindsided by an unexpected departure at a spot with limited depth. I'm fine with him taking his time and making good decisions on this roster for what's assumed to be Nico's final year in orange.

Nico is going to need to improve a lot if planning on leaving after next season in my opinion.

Don’t care if it happens or not, but I kind of hope we take two OL in the portal and push this kid to RT.

Was he a better OT or G?

Karic

Thompson
So Sham was getting some play last year before the injury and now he’s completely out of the picture? Seems like we’ve got more viable options than folks are talking about? JMO

I'm not really concerned about who starts. I'm more concerned with quality depth. Guys that can, and will, rotate in or step up without a drop-off in play. It's time to see if some of those young guys have developed. What we do in the portal speaks to the coach's confidence in what we have. Much like a lot of people wanted to pick up a RB last year. Specifically, Martinez. The coaches were satisfied with what they had at RB, and despite injuries, it worked out. Same with the secondary. They didn't like what they had, so they gutted it.

"Louisiana Tech’s David Blay is a defensive lineman in the transfer portal who’s on Tennessee’s radar, according to sources. Blay is a redshirt junior, so he has one remaining season of eligibility.
I’m told Blay is at Illinois right now, and he’s expected to visit Penn State after that, followed by USC. A possible trip to Tennessee would be sometime after that. It’s worth noting that Blay has not announced an offer from the Vols on his X account, while he has announced offers from some of those other schools. But sometimes that doesn’t mean anything in regard to the way schools interact with and pursue targets in the transfer portal, where not every offer is announced.
The 6-foot-4, 303-pound Blay is originally from Pennsylvania and spent two years at Division II West Chester University before transferring to Louisiana Tech last year. As a redshirt freshman for the Bulldogs, he appeared in 10 games and finished the year with 16 tackles. This year, he started all 12 games during the regular season and recorded 46 tackles, including 10.5 tackles for loss and 6.5 sacks.

Supposed to be at PSU this weekend. Haven't seen anything other than the above on a USC visit. Visit here is "possible, but nothing set in stone" per RC. IMO PSU will likely be hard to beat...
This is not talking about Thompson

I mean, they both played in 4 games this year, just my opinion Warren has more talent. Either way, Perry Warren or J Heard are here now. Maybe Sanders makes a run at starting somewhere on the line, but personally i just don’t like the idea of a freshman who currently weighs 280 pounds being inserted into the lineup just because he’s supposed to be the second coming. Wanya and Darnell had as much hype and they took 2+ years to develop.

Not really concerned about RT. Im just glad we have enough competition there to get the best possible guy to protect Nico. If Thompson could hop on board and replace Spraggins we’d be cookin with bacon grease.
I think the underrated need is LT behind Heard. It’s nigh impossible to log every snap and it wouldn’t be tragic for our best signee to be developed under less fire for a whole season…damn the redshirt.

LT Heard
LG Karic (if his waiver gets approved)
C Satterwhite
RG This dude
RT Perry

Sham, Max Anderson, Ginther, and Bussell for G/C depth.

Warren, Sanders, LJ3 for tackle depth.

Not bad at all…

This. And I think (hope) Bennett will backup Heard at LT next season, LJ3 behind him. Staff is just so high on Perry, he’s my surprise “young” starter on the OL prediction. I think J heard/Grant back Perry up.

Wonder where Duncan fits in? Don’t hear much about him. Just curious about his development. He has good size. (I know, TWSS)

think hes a couple years out, which is OK for any OL especially someone new to the position. IMO he'll backup at RT in '26 and push in '27 as a redshirt Jr.

that's what healthy depth looks like

Mannnnnnnn I wish he would play SDE.

I think he would be a damn monster. Pretty much same size as JJ Watt

yeah he was exciting on that side of the ball too but what made him special there was his length+athleticism and that is even more a premium at OT

luckily we are packed to the gills with elite SDE depth rn and rodney keeps reloading each cycle. Good spot to be in
