I know they had a good run against us during the dark years, but now they are in their dark years and quickly heading towards being a bottom feeder in the SEC for a long long time. But when talking about next year, I've seen many fans on here pencil in @UF as a loss (despite us playing them in late Nov, which, the last time we played them at the Swamp after Nov 1, we won...and that was when they were still actually good!). I also see people talking about them being "on the rise" in different ways in many different threads and disucssions.

Don't forget, Big Josh owns UFail and has a winning record against Sunbelt Billy, winning 2 of the last 3. Nico is coming back and will be better than ever. And we just brought in a top 10 team off a playoff appearance and are in good position to go on a real run next year.

And where did all this arrogance and confidence come from the Lizard fans?

For the last three years all we heard from Lizard fans was how Sunbelt Billy was hot garbage and they were ready to can him. Now, it’s like they’re hoping we all have amnesia and they’re ready to crown him as the second coming of Saban and they wanna erect a statue in front of The Swamp for 5 loss seasons. Those jort-wearing fools have gone from calling Billy clown of the century to GOAT literally overnight.

I just don't get where all this is coming from considering that they're hot off a 5 loss season with a terrible coach with a 19-19 record there.
They are going to be a tough out for anyone

2 warmup games before going to Baton Rouge

Everyone saw what Miami looked like with and without Cam Ward at QB

Miss State is in Gainesville - KY is a mess

Ole Miss is starting over after renting a bunch of good players

FSU is rebooting with a bunch of new rented players

Florida has to replace 2 WRs and an OT, while getting their best WR (Tre Wilson) back from injury
On defense, Florida loses their starting DT and Edge, starting LB and CB.

Due to injuries last year, Florida played a lot of young guys on defense the last half of the year.
All total, Florida returns 15 starters from an 8-5 teams that finished the year on a 4 game win streak.

The truth is that it will be game 11. So much can and will happen between now and then. Some us might even have the Christmas decorations back up that we just took down . The good news for us is that even though the game will be down there, they will be playing UGA, @ Uk , @ Ole Miss the 3 weeks before playing us. We will play NM State after a bye week before the Gators. We should be well rested and possibly have more to play for than them comparing the 2 schedules. We could have 2 losses or less and Florida could be in a situation similar to this season given their tough schedule .

To me there’s some things working in our favor considering we don’t even know what our roster is for Spring practice let alone for next November .

I can tell that not by that small sample size but by a much larger sample of 3 years where Sun Belt Billy has yet to reach 8 wins in regular season. 5-7, 6-7 and 8-5 is what Butch type guy had. Recall end of 3rd year of Butch. His 2015 team finished season 9-4 with 6 game winning streak as well with same Vibes.
Ok. The next year he beat Florida and Georgia. Does that mean Napier will beat Heupel and Kirby next year. No it doesn’t. Your vibe doesn’t = transitive math. If they went 8-4 with that schedule next year he would keep his job and get to coach Lagway as a Junior with an easier schedule. They were one OT against us away from being 8-4 this past year. I’ll believe we beat them there when I see it.

Ifs and buts .. oh that reminds me Butch also lost to playoff bound OU in 2 OT and FL by last minute pass and also nearly beat AL that year lol
I wasn’t referring to transitive math but rather to a larger sample size of his body of work .. Saying he won his past 5-6 sounds good (thats what Butch used to talk a lot ..) but when you look at overall body of work here is the truth:
Since Billy was hired, Huepel in his worst year has won more games than Billy in his best year !!

Mertz got hurt on a no contract injury. What hurt Florida more was when Lagway got hurt when they played Georgia.

100%. Florida was in control of that game before Lagway went out. The injury also affected his play the rest of the year. He was completely immobile, could barely run at 3/4 speed and with a noticeable limp, yet somehow beat LSU and Ole Miss. When he can incorporate his run game with what we’ve already seen from his passing, he’s got a chance to be really good.

Florida is definitely trending in the right direction. I never count that game as a W, we have found the worst way to lose to them even when we were the better team especially in Gainesville that place is like a black hole down there for us.

They beat us soundly there last year (with what was a bad team for them) . . . In 2022 we almost let them come back and beat us at home (one of our best teams in a long time), and this year at home they took us to overtime (again - they were not as solid early as they were late this year . . . And if their starting QB had not gotten injured or if they had gone for 2 at the end of the game . . . They very well could have beaten us at HOME this year). We are not a good road team, and we historically struggle against UF - especially at their place. They have talent.

For these reasons I think we lose that game. I hope to be wrong . . .

The last three years UF had the defense on skates all night. Billy knows how to attack our defense with presnap motion and isolates our linebackers into bad matchups. A lot of teams have figured this out. We were fortunate to win this year. If Mertz doesn’t go down, we lose that game.
