Not Impressed

You know dude woke up with a crazy headache, got on here checked his last posts and thought. "Ain't no way in he** I'm going back in there!"

I am watching the rest of the SEC and none of them have looked too good so far. ( as of 4:30 Saturday) That said, I think we had a very impressive start against a good team.. GO VOLS.

Our play calling is suspect. The real match up was our running backs (or tight ends) against the NC State linebackers; we failed to exploit this advantage. We should have beat this team by 3 touchdowns.

Initially, I thought that we would have 10 wins this season; now, I say that we will be lucky to win 8.

We have the players, we just don't have the ability to exploit opportunities...and that is coaching.

Let me get this straight, coming off of a loss to a terrible UK team with no QB, you had us winning 10. We come out and beat a pretty good NC State team and you say we'll be lucky to win 8. Makes sense. Goober.

I apologize for offending anyone with my posts.

I was simply disappointed in the fact that we did not exploit opportunities in order to sustain drives.

We have outstanding players, but do be successful in the SEC, we will need a more tactical approach to play calling.

It happens man. Its the first game though, most sec teams are struggling right now. I know its hard after the past few years, have patience we are headed in the right direction. We beat a good NC St fairly easy. If it helps UF is only up 14-7, with BG threatening. Keep your head up and your hair cut! GBO

Yep. We'll need tactics that produce 700 yards of total offense instead of that piddly 500+.

Closed minds equate different = bad...

Best 60 minutes the Vols have had in a while! Played with intensity the whole game! good adjustments at halftime too!

It would help if you could be more specific. For example, you feel the 67 yard end around play that Patterson ran for a TD would have looked better in the highlights had he run it in the other direction.

Or, is your gripe that we should have gone for 2, instead of Palardy's missed PAT, after the 41 yard pass play as their defense was winded?

Or is it the defensive play calling... for example, we had the wrong coverage on one of the four interceptions.

We were a few plays away from a total blow out. IE The TD fumble, Prentis getting tackled by grass and a few drops that coulda continued drives. This team is only gonna get better.

Even 20 pages of op bashing are not enough to adequately punish the wanna be vol fan

The grass tackling Prentis was irrelevant as there was holding on the return

How can you not be impressed?

Y'all looked pretty good (if not VERY good) at all positions. Your QB is a stud, and your WRs are second to none. Sure, you could have run the ball a little more, but why?

Have a good season, VolNation.

You too. Best of luck

My read was that the offense was pretty solid--as expected.

The defense played better than I expected.

It's early, but I'm more optimistic about the season now than I was before the game.

CDD's future hinges on this season.... if he can pull out 9 or 10 wins, he may be the guy who turns the program around.

From a coaching standpoint, you have to tip your hat a bit to him. He held/put this staff together without losing the last recruiting class--and overall, the players looked as though they were pretty well coached, especially for an opener.

Just saying... I try to be objective--and sometimes objective is more negative. This time, it's positive.

Great start, Vols! :hi:

Good post. I agree.

That's one of my favorite parts. We actually had half-time adjustments. And we didn't crap out in the second half.

Prentis having a run in with a turf monster doesn't matter. There was a penalty on the play.

some folks complained of a defense that left receivers open. I can;t wait to see them get into the film room and perfect their assignments. Clearly a misunderstanding in roles. They will lock this down and impress a lot of folks.

If lane shows he can run downhill he will take the starting job back from neal. No question about it. NCST had a question mark on their defense at LB. SEC LBs will shut down the sideline runs quickly.

OP will have to be impressed when we spank FL

You could have been more optimistic and said something like..."Wow we didn't even play our best and beat the livin s##t out of a decent football team. Wow I am really amped about what it's gonna look like when we bring our A game"...If you had said something more complimentary like that, you would have been spared the eternal scorn of the VN.:good!: I just hope you don't get the codyg treatment from henceforth.

I posted these observations after our first game this year (NC State). I could not believe the flak that I received from starting this thread.

I was just wondering: how do you feel now?
