They were in just as bad of shape as us over the past few years, maybe worse, and now they are playing in the NC. As much as I dislike Fighting Irish it gives me hope. This goes to show what hiring the right coach can do for a program. It may not come quite as fast for us because we are in the SEC but with our tradition, resources and a good hire at head coach we can become national championship contenders once more.

If e can get the Pope to help us recruit, we might have better teams also.

They have a great coach. He was my 1st choice when we hired Dooley. Not sure if we ever offered him, but he obviously turned us down if we did.

Notre Dame has one distinct advantage over us: Their three biggest rivals are NOT Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

Let's not poo-poo ND's schedule too much. I'm not saying it's SEC hard, but they beat MSU, Michigan, Stanford, Oklahoma, and USC. Those aren't gimmes. In fact, it's more top 25 wins than we've had in 5-6 years combined. I hate them so much it's hard to say anything good about them, but it is what it is.

Yea, Im sure Mark Richt, Will Muschamp, and Nick Saben said the same thing? Brian Kelly is one win from 200 victories. Had 171 before coming to ND. He has a philsophy, of WINNING, done it everywhere he has went. He would have been a MUCH better hire then LK.

eggggg zackly. It never fails, any team on a run thinks it's going to last forever, and there are always so called "experts" that say a former great programs will "never" return to prominence. It's a joke. There are always good times and bad times. If you can minimize the problems when you are in the trough and push yourself to continue improving during the good times you can minimize the volatility. But, you can never make it go away.....remember Bama in the 90's? Nebraska, Michigan, Miami, USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State, and Yes UT - all have won national chamiponships (or top 5 programs) and have strugled at times over the last 20 years.

There is no other sport where the right leadership can make a program, and the wrong leadership can decimate one. If you need evidence, just look at Arkansas with Petrino and without.

Yes, it is what it is. And it IS a schedule that does NOT include ANY of the BCS top 5, let alone 3 of them. Notre Dame with our schedule would lay at least 3 losses this year. Wear and tear from the combat may have weakened their team such that four losses would be possible.

Welcome to the SEC. The Tide or Dawgs will properly introduce them to real football in January.

I don't believe Notre Dame was in near as bad of a shape as UT, talent-wise. Their '06,'7,'08, and '11 classes were top 10 ranked. The '09 class was 21st and the '10 class was ranked 14th. There wasn't anywhere near the attrition that UT had either.

I honestly don't think Notre Dame could beat:

Alabama
LSU
Texas A&M
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina w/ Lattimore and maybe even without

So I think they would be the 6th or 7th best team in the SEC.

Why the hell did Hamilton hire Kiffin and not Brian Kelly when he was at Cincinnati???
Kelly thought that he had the job, at one point. Do you think Kelly would have left U.T. to go to Notre Dame, which is his dream job????

Our avg recruiting classes going back to 2002 have a higher avg than ND and we finished higher than them most times. They have not had as much talent as us until DD took over and we fell off the map. Plus they have a good coach and get some lucky calls from the refs.

Notre Dame went to OT to be able to beat Pittsburg at home & they just barely pulled that win out. There are some bumps in the road for every team & not all are gimmes. But if they had to play Alabama, Florida, Georgia, & SC every year on that schedule they would not be 12-0. ND this year is good but they have not played Oregon with that fast striking offense. Bama will whip dey ass in the NC game if all cylinders are firing. Can't wait to see the NC game against those two teams if Bama can get by Georgia this Saturday night.

When you play mostly sh**** teams it's probably easy to turn things around faster.

So could UT beat Oklahoma?

Stanford?

USC?

MSU?

Michigan?

UT would be lucky to win ONE of those games.

I don't like ND either but their schedule was 16th toughest in country this year, while Ala was in the 30's and GA was about 60th. So they didn't play a bunch of shotty teams.
