The winner of the SECCG will play nd for the nc. Taking nd for granted is a bad mistake, they are solid on both sides of the ball.

dekram and orangeluvr get it. Barely beating pitt doesn't make ND a bad team. They had a bad week and needed some luck (Stoerner fumble anyone?) to get the NC game. Bama or UGA better be ready for a fight.

2012 Notre Dame = 2010 Michigan State Spartans = 2008 Hawaii Warriors...

Same flavor, different year. Another media hyped "non-SEC" team who could coast on that hype for only so long. I could be wrong but I think more likely ND will be embarrassed.

Except that ND beat more top 25 teams this year than Hawaii likely has in their history.

No one is going to take the BCSCG for granted.

Notre Dame is for real.

The SEC champion will be a favorite in the game.

That being said, ND has been EXTREMELY lucky this season.

FWIW, with the right coach, UT could be relevant in 2 years and could have a good season next year. Dooley's a nice guy, but UT deserves a top 5 coach.

Even when ND was at their worst they still could get 4 & 5 star recruits every year all because the school is famous with a long tradition. Also because kids where guaranteed to be on tv every week.

And i know i will get hammered for this but they understand white players can play football just like black players can. And the white players want to go there and Ohio State because they know they have a chance to play with no biast bullshat!!! Of course people will say i am racists but the facts are there for everyone to see. Look at DT Bosa a 5 star out of Florida. Where is he committed to play? Ohio State!!!,,,,,hmmm wonder why he would want to go to Ohio State rather than play for Florida or Florida State?

Don't get me wrong i hate ND but i do see how great players could be interested and why!!!

Amen

Why the hell did Hamilton hire Kiffin and not Brian Kelly when he was at Cincinnati???
Kelly thought that he had the job, at one point. Do you think Kelly would have left U.T. to go to Notre Dame, which is his dream job????

My response isn't aimed at you in particular but the question in general. Could you imagine the $hitstorm if Hamilton had fired a future hall of fame coach mid-season, just one year removed from an SECCG appearance only to replace said coach with the HC of the Cincinnati Bearcats?

Hindsight is 20/20. The truth is that Hamilton fired Fulmer without a proper contingency plan, hired Kiffin without doing do diligence, and finally hired Dooley based on pedigree and not on resume. Sumlin's credentials should've landed him the job but nepotism and the good 'ole boy system prevailed.

This schedule is a joke.

2012 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Schedule

Don't see how anyone can compare this to an SEC schedule.

Georgia's SEC schedule:

Missouri
Vanderbilt
Tennessee
South Carolina
Kentucky
Florida
Mississippi
Auburn

Two of those teams are currently ranked. (UGA beat Florida narrowly and lost by 28 to South Carolina)

Their non-conference schedule: Buffalo, Florida Atlantic, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech.

Yeah, Notre Dame's schedule doesn't compare to an SEC schedule; would be lucky to be 8-4 against that murderer's row.

Long time lurker, first time poster. I've seen/heard some stuff about Tennessee not being a great job -- yet that's what people were saying about Notre Dame as recently as four months ago. As a Notre Dame fan, I know what it's like to suffer through bad coaching hires. Best of luck on the search, and hopefully see you guys back in South Bend soon.

About half of the ones you give to ND should go to UA. #3, #4, #6, #9, #10 #12 a toss up. ND has gotten bad calls and luck to beat mediocre opponents. Their schedule is pretty weak.

I don't believe Notre Dame was in near as bad of a shape as UT, talent-wise. Their '06,'7,'08, and '11 classes were top 10 ranked. The '09 class was 21st and the '10 class was ranked 14th. There wasn't anywhere near the attrition that UT had either.

I'm not sure what the '06 and '07 classes have to do with the 2012 ND squad. However, you are right in pointing out the fact that the majority of the players on the ND team were pursued and recruited by Weiss (all of the starters aside from Golson, Tuitt, Farley, and Russell).

ND loses most of their OL next year, and the heart of their defense (Moore, Calabrese, Teo, and Motta). They also lose Riddick, Wood, and Eifert on offense. While there are some better than decent backups on the roster, I would be surprised if Notre Dame manages to pull out nine wins next season.

The following look like they will be losses:
at Michigan
Oklahoma
USC (there is still too much talent at USC to count them out)
at Stanford

You should probably get your facts straight before you spout off. I wasn't saying they'd beat Alabama...I don't think they will. I was saying they have a tough schedule.

ND has beaten 3 current top 25 schools: Stanford (8), Oklahoma (11), Michigan (19)

By comparison Alabama has beaten 2: Michigan (19), LSU (7)

Georgia has beaten 1: Florida

Also, ND hasn't played a single FBS team. Facts>your bias any day of the week.

I agree with you 100%. But the FBS thing is something most conferences do. Wofford, Ga. State, Fuhrman, Towsen, etc...can basically make their programs self sufficient from those games. They get anywhere from 800 to mill for taking that but kickin. Well worth it for those schools, and not a big ding as far as the polls go. Unless you lose like Michigan and Virginia have.

Not quite. Since Notre Dame doesn't *officially* redshirt -- instead, they list players by their class -- some of the "Seniors" you see on their roster are actually redshirt Juniors.

For instance, the left side of the OL -- T Zach Martin and G Chris Watt -- are listed as Seniors, but are redshirt Juniors in football eligibility and are expected to return in 2013. Only two starters will be lost on OL, with RT Christian Lombard a redshirt Sophomore (but listed as a Junior).

You mentioned Carlo Calabrese at LB and Cierre Wood at RB, both are eligible for 2013 as well; Calabrese a lock to return; Wood is leaning towards the NFL.

If Wood returns, Notre Dame would be returning 15 starters (7 on O; 8 on D) in 2013.

Michigan will be losing more; Oklahoma and USC will be at Notre Dame in 2013 with new QBs. You really shouldn't be surprised if ND wins 9 games next year.

Interesting, I did not know that. If that is the case, then ND might win 9 (I still think they are going to struggle with OU, USC, and Stanford...and, they might struggle with ND).

I'm a big SEC fan myself, but this is delusional.

Alabama - Bama wins 75%
LSU - ND wins 65%
Texas A&M - ND 60%
Georgia - 50/50
Florida - 50/50
South Carolina w/ Lattimore 50/50

I live in tennessee, grew up watching Majors against Bryant, Majors against Dooley and so on and so forth. I like Tennessee but ND is my favorite, so I am a little biased here. Not to burst any bubbles, and I know this has been some time ago, but Bryant NEVER beat ND (0-4) Alabama played ND 6 times between 73-87 and won only once. As far as ND vs SEC opponents 44-32-5. To say that a team doesn't play in the coveted SEC isn't worth anything is wrong. To add to this, the only school that has close to a winning record against ND is Tennessee 4-4. I am very happy that we have BK and I am hoping you guys get Gruden. I want to see my pops happy again about Volunteer football. Alabama, by the way, is OVERRATED. Georgia will give them more, if not, all they can handle. I am calling it! Georgia by 10.

I agree with your pick, UGA over Bama. I am NOT a ND fan at all but I like the way this team plays. After watching them and seeing both interviewed, you have a couple of real winners in that QB & LB. I really like the way they handle themselves on and off the field. If BAMA wins I will be a ND fan for one night!
