Notre Dame

I don't believe Notre Dame was in near as bad of a shape as UT, talent-wise. Their '06,'7,'08, and '11 classes were top 10 ranked. The '09 class was 21st and the '10 class was ranked 14th. There wasn't anywhere near the attrition that UT had either.

Notre Dame only won 3 games in '07

The only thing I noticed about ND is that they have a good D and O-line. They run the ball well but they can't pass very well at all, at least not against USC b/c that is the only game of theirs I watched. ND will struggle against the SEC D's that are geared to stop the run first.

Don't bet on Bama having a gimme game against UGA, mark my words.

Notre Dame has something the Vols will never have - they are the media darling team; they always get more credit than they're due.

What quality teams have they played other than OK this season?

They will always be impostors in the top ranks until they can drop a top ranked team. They would get smoked by Bama or Oregon this season.

They don't belong to the SEC...or any conference for that matter. We're in a completely different boat. Sorry bro. It's not going to be an accident when we return to prominence.

They were in just as bad of shape as us over the past few years, maybe worse,
Nope. Not even in the same universe. Weis for whatever reason could not get the job done on gameday. He recruited very well and has a good eye for talent. Kelly took over a VERY talented football team.

and now they are playing in the NC. As much as I dislike Fighting Irish it gives me hope. This goes to show what hiring the right coach can do for a program. It may not come quite as fast for us because we are in the SEC but with our tradition, resources and a good hire at head coach we can become national championship contenders once more.

If you were talking about the next coach taking over a situation somewhat similar to what Kelly inherited then you are closer. But not quite. The next coach will have to get some studs in this class for UT to get to where ND is in two years.

I honestly don't think Notre Dame could beat:

Alabama
LSU
Texas A&M
Georgia
Florida
South Carolina w/ Lattimore and maybe even without

So I think they would be the 6th or 7th best team in the SEC.

I'm a big SEC fan myself, but this is delusional.

Alabama - Bama wins 75%
LSU - ND wins 65%
Texas A&M - ND 60%
Georgia - 50/50
Florida - 50/50
South Carolina w/ Lattimore 50/50

The Farting Irish don't usually play anyone tougher than Michigan, Michigan State, or USC, nor do they have to worry about a conference championship game. If they had to go up against the best of the SEC on a regular basis, they'd never have an undefeated season.

I sure hope he wins a national title this year whether he plays Alabama or Georgia. Go Irish ....and I hate them!!!!

There is one similarity. If you win all (or even almost all) of your games you will be in the NC hunt. We have suffered through the down side of that for the past several years, but the opportunity is always there in the SEC. That is why all of the top coaches want to come here. You win, you're in.

Yes, it is what it is. And it IS a schedule that does NOT include ANY of the BCS top 5, let alone 3 of them. Notre Dame with our schedule would lay at least 3 losses this year. Wear and tear from the combat may have weakened their team such that four losses would be possible.

Welcome to the SEC. The Tide or Dawgs will properly introduce them to real football in January.

AV

You have to be a total idiot to not think Notre Dame's schedule isn't tough!! If they were in the SEC this year, they would DEFINITELY BE 1 OF THE TOP 2 TEAMS!! I don't care how many teams from the SEC are ranked in the top 5, Norte Dame's schedule is tougher than anybodys in our conference. BTW....they play ZERO FBS TEAMS!!

ND's schedule was tougher than most of the BCS participants from outside the SEC over the last 5 years or so. They were "lucky" several times but the wins still count.

BTW, I hate ND right next to UF, UNC, and al Qaeda.

Even when ND was at their worst they still could get 4 & 5 star recruits every year all because the school is famous with a long tradition. Also because kids where guaranteed to be on tv every week.

And i know i will get hammered for this but they understand white players can play football just like black players can. And the white players want to go there and Ohio State because they know they have a chance to play with no biast bullshat!!! Of course people will say i am racists but the facts are there for everyone to see. Look at DT Bosa a 5 star out of Florida. Where is he committed to play? Ohio State!!!,,,,,hmmm wonder why he would want to go to Ohio State rather than play for Florida or Florida State?

Don't get me wrong i hate ND but i do see how great players could be interested and why!!!

I'd be curious to know the percentage of white starters at ND vs that percentage at the other top 20 schools. Probably not as different as you'd think.

Let's not poo-poo ND's schedule too much. I'm not saying it's SEC hard, but they beat MSU, Michigan, Stanford, Oklahoma, and USC. Those aren't gimmes. In fact, it's more top 25 wins than we've had in 5-6 years combined. I hate them so much it's hard to say anything good about them, but it is what it is.

it must be rough playing 2 teams that end up in the top 25. USC at 7-4 with their back up qb playing...what a great win. michigan state and michigan average like 10 points a game...awesome. must have been brutal playing navy boston college byuwake forest purdue and pitt too...give me a break. they struggled with purdue byu and should have lost to pitt. alabama is going to roll them. if notre dame got points just for crossing midfield they would still lose. this game is going to be along the lines of 35-3. bama and notre dame play the same style except alabama has clearly superior talent. might be turning this one off after the first quarter

You should probably get your facts straight before you spout off. I wasn't saying they'd beat Alabama...I don't think they will. I was saying they have a tough schedule.

ND has beaten 3 current top 25 schools: Stanford (8), Oklahoma (11), Michigan (19)

By comparison Alabama has beaten 2: Michigan (19), LSU (7)

Georgia has beaten 1: Florida

Also, ND hasn't played a single FBS team. Facts>your bias any day of the week.

So then they'll have the same number of top 25 wins as ND. Look, I freaking hate ND with the passion of a thousand suns, but you have to give the devil his due. They played a brutal schedule that Sagarin ratings list as being on par with Alabama, LSU, A&M, etc. They play a schedule that is significantly harder than UGA. They won them all. Lot of them were ugly. Ugly wins count as wins. I wish UT had a few of those ugly wins.

Michigan, Michigan state and USC are typically tough games but look at their record this year. Notre dame should have lost to Pitt. They were about an inch away from doing so. They also played close with a lot of bad teams. I look forward to them getting exposed by Bama or uga

I think you mean FCS.
