this has been a bad year for the vols in close games ,sure we beat uga by 1 but lost 2 close games to fla, miss state, bama, arky was close, usc west close and georgia was close in win and loss, being last in sec in ft attempts a game dont help but the fact that in 6 or 7 games we missed potential game tieing or go ahead free throws or front end of one and ones, which must improve to have the oppertunity to beat uk,and to possibly win more than one sec tourney game.and win a game or two in ncaa.best possible finish,is to beat uk and win sec tourney, which should get us to 23 -13 and a possible 5 seed but probable 6-7 seed.at worst we lose to uk then in first sec tourney game and be 18-14 and even with great sos and rpi we woud be lucky to get better than a 10 seed.even if we beat ky and win sec tourney and won ncaa tourney it would still in my opionion pearls worst season as a coach, playes way to many players and it has affected our consistantsy

I don't think we are a lock if we lose our next two games and end the season at 18-14 and lose 7 our of our last 10 games. We really wouldn't deserve to be in the tournament. With Big Baby out against UK I don't like our chances for the next game. We looked lost defending the post in the second half against USCe tonight and you know Calipari is going to take advantage of that a lot more than USCe coach.

Early season wins have been known to carry little weight in the past. We can not afford to implode against KY like last year. A solid showing, or win, and we are in for sure.

Is it guaranteed that Williams is out against Ky? Their offensive rebounds in the first half absolutely destroyed us. And if it happens again I see the same result. If they had half of the offensive rebounds they had, we would be in that game. Williams will be a key part of that. Unless Hall has a breakout game. He is capable of more than he has shown and if all he does is 6+ rebounds and no points I think we still have a chance. But Hall wants to score.

I think we will be a 1 seed in the NIT that gets bounced first round or be a 9+ seed that goes to the sweet 16. Nothing but highs and lows with this team

we've been a lock.
Not the case at all. A 17-14 team going into the SEC tournament would've been a lock? No way.

They still may need to win a game, IMO. They lose 2 in a row, then 18-14 could very well be a coinflip, especially if a few unexpected teams get automatic bids.

When we beat Kentucky and win the SEC tourney- what would be our best possible seed?

I say 5 but that would be beating every best team we can in SEC tourney. if teams like Florida , Vandy, Bama lose then we dont get the eye opening wins to cut down the nets in Atlanta. Going through the bottom feeders gets us Ws but not the kind that improove seeding.

I dont feel as optimistic as you if we are a 8 or 9 seed because the winner gets reawrded with either, Ohio State, Duke, Pittsburgh (which would be out to embarrass us after what we did to them, or kansas or another comparable team close to those. I say we make it to second day max if with 8/9 seed. Now if we can make a 7 or higher all bets are off. matchups determine everything.

have you seen our competition for getting in?

Have you seen the back of the bubble? Would you put Memphis or someone similar to them in over us?

I cant imagine any bracket having Memphis in period...some do but they have NO arguement from ANY angle to get in....What? 5 losses by average of 19 points each..something like that....and a couple of other loses to very insignificant programs........and it gets worse from there....

We have to win our first game in the tourney to be a lock, unless we beat Kensucky this weekend. But I dont see us getting left out of the tourney. Too good of a resume!
GO VOLS!

Normally I'd agree with this (and even in the own projections I do for fun, I don't have Memphis in), but the bubble is so weak this year that Memphis has a good chance of getting in. Any other year, they'd be out.

Should make the tournament great though, incredible parity this season.

RPI & SOS for SEC teams:

Florida-----------RPI, 11; SOS 7
Kentucky--------RPI, 12; SOS 10
Vandy-----------RPI, 24; SOS 19
Tennessee------RPI, 33; SOS 3
UGA-------------RPI, 37; SOS 34
Ole Miss---------RPI, 83; SOS 72
Alabama---------RPI, 88; SOS 130

If the predictions that 5 SEC teams go to the NCAAT hold, then as of now, UT is one of them. It helps UT if a favorite, Florida or Kentucky, wins the SEC tournament. If we lose in the 1st round, and someone like Miss St or Ole Miss wins the tournament, we could get bumped out.

Wow from the looks of that if Florida wins out they could be anywhere from a 2 to 4 seed.

So like I was saying, if we don't win another game I still don't think we're a lock. Just as I suspected, we lost to Kentucky at home today, and now we draw Arkansas in the first round of the SEC tourney, a completely lose-able game. We already lost to them in our only matchup. If we bow out in the first round, I think we are an absolute bubble team. 18-14 ain't that impressive kids. Flame me all you want, but I'm just being realistic here. We need to get to 19 wins.

I hope and think we have a good shot to get in still, but to call us a lock is silly.

as those in the sports media have said, field's too weak this year to find reasonable (key word) way to omit them, even with how disappointed some may or may not be here with how the team did this season

Well if you want a small silver lining to this season, here it is:

If Vandy hadn't lost twice to us, we wouldn't be in right now. Considering they lost both games by blowing significant leads, I'd say that makes it a bit sweeter.
