You really think TAMU can beat TX this year?
A&M didn’t suddenly forget how to play football after they soundly beat LSU. I was thoroughly impressed with that win, and I also expected them to get smacked by SCar the following week in Willie B. Their loss to Auburn isn’t all that surprising either; Aubie has lost so many games largely because they give the ball away like a religious sect gives out pamphlets. They didn’t turn the ball over and behold, they beat a top 15 team.
TAMU isn’t a very good team. They’re a pretty good team though, one that can play really well one week and really suspect the next…and vice versa. They’re also a different animal at Kyle Field, and I can’t believe that Elko’s “We’re focused on Texas…I mean Auburn” Freudian slip last week wasn’t indicative of something. They likely were looking ahead, and even if not, they’ll unquestionably have more juice for this game than they’ve had maybe the entire year.
For their part, I just don’t trust Texas. They may well win the SEC and national championships, but at this point, I think it’s just as likely they fall flat on their face. They have zero, repeat, ZERO ranked wins. Their one shot against a top-shelf opponent they got thrashed, in their own stadium no less. They are the Penn State of the SEC until proven otherwise, and I just have this gut feeling they’re going to get exposed (again) at some point.
Beyond TU and A&M themselves, what has this season shown us if not that each week and each game is its own entity? Past is not prologue; each result is part of the tapestry of who a team is, was, and can be. In a competitive league, good teams have bad weeks, bad teams have good weeks, and mediocre teams have both. So yes, I think A&M can beat Texas. In fact I think they will beat Texas, but we’ll see.
