NSD Finish Thread

Lolol yay...we can only hope for years of continued mediocre bowl blowouts!

Did you really expect a national championship or even an SEC Championship after only a few years with the complete rebuild that has had to take place. Look. I am disappointed with how last season turned out and I am frustrated with some of the decisions that Butch has made. However, I still have faith that he can find success here. The problem is so many UT fans have unrealistic expectations in the short run and are not patient enough to let things mature and reap the possibility of sustained success in the future. Most would be happy with one NC or SECC now if we floundered around for 5 or 6 years after that. I'd rather be patient and see if Butch can't get us to a level where we are in Atlanta and the CFP hunt for a decade or two. That takes time and letting Butch do a little learning on the job. Yall don't have the patience for that though.

Butch has taken us to 3 straight bowl blowouts. His seat is cool as a cucumber.... Except for on VN.

Our standards are higher than yours. We rather have SECC, NY6 bowl, playoff.

The " at least he is better than Dooley" isn't good enough. Our results last 2 or 3 yrs is great for ......Kentucky. But going to ATL or a NY6 or better was botched twice in a row.....not good enough for a lot of us. Also TN was way better than those teams so it should have been a blowout. Tells me the roster was good enough for a bigger bowl against a better team imo

But your opinion is yours and will respect it

Don't try and make sense. It further bunches the panties.

They botched going to ATL twice. Poor coaching and decisions are to blame for the most part. Its cool you have blind faith in him. Alot of us don't. Is what it is

I believe with a better HC and few better assts that the team could have made it to ATL....at least once the last 2 yrs.

Also....Cincinnati is a " learn on the job" program. TN shouldn't be. But our administration hasn't been committed in winning and thats a whole another discussion

I think for this class to be a success in my opinion we need to hold on to Murphy (grade concerns or not, I think he's the second best offensive skill player in our class next to Chandler) and get at least one of Ray, Conliffe, and Sterling. Ideally, get two of the three DLs. Murphy plus one or two DLs will be a somewhat disappointing class compared to prior classes and the purported legendary class of '17 but it will be a very solid class that still keeps our talent level on par with the other top SECe teams.

No, I'm generally accused of being a sunshine pumper but all three of the DL guys are trending away from us and something is definitely up with Murphy with a late visit to the home state school. That is where we finish if we sign who we have now...sorry you don't like it.

So is Ray trending away from us or seriously considering us? Confused.

Trending was probably a poor word..I'm more optimistic about him than the other 2 DLs..just Alabama pressure would still mean we would be the underdog but no we are still in it till he signs on Wednesday.

Callahan said Sterling is likely USCe he thinks Vols still in it for Conliffe and Ray.

He said on twitter that he was all Vol after his visit to Ole Miss. He probably just needed a few hundred bucks and knew where he could get it fast. :birgits_giggle::birgits_giggle:

Even though we only have one 5* and four 4* players, if our current players are coached the right way and we are free of significant injuries, we can still win games.
However; bad recruiting & bad player development will not end well for any team....

I think Murphy flips (or is dropped) for Pouncey
Sterling to USCe
Conliffe to Gators
Ray to Bama
Everyone else committed signs
15-20 finish 7-8 in SEC

I really really hope the bold above doesn't happen. I know Murphy has supposedly lied to the Vol staff about visiting Ole Miss but he's been Vol solid for a while now.

Pouncey is a big & I mean a big dropdown in talent if this is what happens though. Murphy is an elite type playmaker & we need to try to keep him at all means.

We have more 4 star than 4. When other services has a kid rated 4 they see in young man more upside that the other service does not. Now yes we do have some players that our considered reaches that our coaches see something in meeting them and have trust in development and strength program. We shall see in a few years.

Based on recent years I think we don't get any of the "big fish". Of course, ray is the ultimate big fish. Why a guy like that would choose to go compete with literally 20 other incredibly highly rated players for playing time is just hard to comprehend. Saban just must be the greatest salesman in the history of time.
Here's the real scenario with these guys choosing to go to bama and compete. If a guy like ray does everything he's supposed to (develop, work hard, stay out of trouble), he'll get a chance to potentially start about 3 seasons into his career. Here's the problem....it only leaves him a small window. If he has a significant injury, that may be it. He banked everything on that short opportunity. Also, some guys just need real game reps to improve and develop.

He's not going to start anytime soon. Bama signs highly touted dlineman every year. And he's not unseating the guys that we're there before him.

So why does a guy like him go to bama and bank everything on that short window instead of looking at a depth chart and going somewhere like TN, which he could legitimately have a chance to start for 4 seasons. If he has a significant injury he still has plenty of time to recover. And if he takes more time than some players to adapt to major college football, he'll have that opportunity playing somewhere with less depth on the dline. And every program in America has less depth in the dline.

Just my 2 cents

How did his statement say anything about his standard? He just said the seat wasn't warm.

Absolutely agree with this! One of this forum's most rational posts in a while!

No matter where Ray goes I think this one is much closer than many on here give it credit being. I actually think we may lead here. If he wasn't interested he would have already committed to bama, I have no inside knowledge on where he will go. I will say he has kept everything pretty close to the vest and seems to have had genuine interest in the Big Orange for along time. He has a good relationship with Trey Smith also. While from Alabama he lives pretty close to the Tennessee border and is closer to Knoxville than Tuscaloosa. The Vols can offer a better shot at early playing time no matter what bama says. I just have a feeling he is going to go to Tennessee, people can say it's just wishful thinking but there is much more into play than that. GBO!!!!!

I do not have unrealistic expectations. You can blame Jalen Hurd and injuries for losses to South Carolina and Vandy...I choose to blame the coaches who get paid absurd salaries to carry that burden. So many forget that we could've, maybe even should've, had two more losses. What would you say then? Be patient...

That's because I'm one of the forum's most rational posters. Also, most likely the most humble as well. :)
